Why Your Current Diet is Failing You (And How to Fix It Before the Holidays!)

Why Your Current Diet is Failing You (And How to Fix It Before the Holidays!)

You might have noticed that the weather has drastically changed, we are now heading in to Autumn whereby it becomes darker earlier, and the rain has certainly increased. But that may not be the only thing that is changing.

As if my magic, everyone's diets seemed to have changed - gone are the chicken salads, and out come the carb meals as if your brain just simply knows it is time to pack in the carbs to keep us going through the Autumn to prepare us for Winter, as if we were beginning to hybernate.

It’s almost as if we’re on autopilot, isn't it? The crisp autumn air rolls in, and suddenly the cosy comfort foods appear—creamy pastas, thick soups, piles of bread, and endless snacks. Without even realising it, we trade light meals for heavy, carb-loaded dishes that feel like a warm hug in the cold.

But here’s the kicker: our bodies aren't preparing to hibernate like we think they are. Instead, they're storing every extra bite, and before we know it, we’re packing on the pounds.

What feels like natural instinct—loading up on carbs to ‘get through the winter’—actually sets us up for slow weight gain that can creep up faster than we expect. Those comfort meals might seem harmless now, but they could be the very thing dragging down your energy and adding inches to your waistline before Christmas even arrives.

And then there’s the energy roller-coaster. You grab that carb-heavy lunch, feel great for an hour, maybe two, but soon enough, you're hit with the dreaded slump. Your energy crashes, your motivation dips, and suddenly, even the thought of getting up to move feels like a chore. So, what do we do?

We reach for another quick fix—a sugary snack, more caffeine—anything to push through. But it’s a vicious cycle: the energy spikes, followed by the inevitable crashes, leave us yo-yo-ing between bursts of productivity and moments of complete exhaustion. This constant up-and-down doesn’t just mess with your day—it’s wrecking your ability to stay consistent with weight loss and feel in control.

More so, we are also increasing our resistance to insulin, the main hormone that is stopping you from losing weight, and it won't be long before Christmas is upon us and you will be thinking about losing some weight beforehand, and after, with the yearly resolutions that you tell yourself that you will achieve, but in reality, won't do.

The truth is, we’ve been misled for far too long. We’ve been told that carbs are the answer to keeping our energy levels high, to losing body weight, and even to sustaining long-term health.

But here’s the reality: carbs might give you a quick boost, but they are not the key to lasting energy or fat loss. In fact, they’re doing the opposite. By relying on carbs, you’re constantly spiking your insulin levels, which not only makes it harder to lose weight, but also makes it far easier to gain it.

You end up trapped in a cycle of highs and lows, thinking you’re fuelling your body when, in reality, you’re slowing it down. If carbs were the answer, why are so many people struggling with energy crashes, yo-yo weight gain, and an endless battle to keep the pounds off? It’s time to recognise that there’s a better way—one that works with your body, not against it.

The Low Carb Lifestyle

Many of you will know that I am a big advocate for the low-carb lifestyle. And there are many misconceptions when it comes to the food you eat on the low carb diet, that it is bland, too complicated to cook, even expensive but in reality the people who think that are so far off the mark with it.

The low-carb lifestyle is so much more than cutting out bread and pasta—it's about rediscovering how to fuel your body in a way that works with you, not against you. Imagine eating delicious, flavour-packed meals that leave you satisfied, energised, and on track to burn fat, not store it.

It’s not bland, it's not complicated, and it certainly doesn't have to break the bank. With a low-carb approach, you’re giving your body the chance to regulate its insulin, burn stored fat, and break free from the energy crashes that have held you back for so long. This isn't about deprivation or quick fixes—it's about creating a way of eating that supports long-term fat loss, energy, and health.

By adopting a low-carb lifestyle, you’re making a sustainable change that will not only help you shed unwanted body fat but also keep it off, without the endless struggle or restrictive dieting. You'll feel lighter, more in control, and empowered to truly achieve your goals—far beyond Christmas and into the New Year. Isn’t it time to take a different path, one that works?
