Why Your Childhood Passions Might Be the Key to Your Future
I have a hunch that whatever creative activity gave us joy as kids was the foundation of how the universe intended us to succeed as adults.
I have never, for once, believed in a life of routine labour.
And although these thoughts became clearer in the later part of my life (say two years ago), I would love to share my reflections with you, drawing references from celebrities you may know and people I grew up with.
You see, before my brother could spell his name, he could sketch his toys.
But then, we all saw it as a cute talent—up until he was meant to enroll in the university.
That’s when we all shook our heads with indignation at the thought of him wasting his time drawing caricatures.
“You should pursue a career in software engineering,” we demanded.
Let’s just say, at the end of his four-year tenure at the university, we were only too glad he actually graduated.
Now? He’s honing his skills as a Web3 graphics designer, and his art is standing out amongst his international peers.
Now, let’s talk about celebrities.
When we see throwback photos or videos, we are in awe.
Omg! So cute, they’ve always had it in them!

Look how passionate they are, playing with their kiddie mic and performing in front of their families.
We miss the underlying message—they’ve been perfecting that skill all their lives and were supported to develop it.
Sadly, most of us grow into copycats.
We adopt a dream along the way and bury ours in the abyss of our childhood memories.
Now, I’m not saying you should quit your job in a wild goose chase. What I mean is, dig deep into your heart and uncover your core.
When you’ve discovered that, build something around your passion, and show up consistently for yourself.
The good thing is, you’re an adult now… and no one can dictate your life if you’re not in agreement.
What childhood talent have you rediscovered as an adult? Or is there one you’ve been meaning to pursue?
Cheers to uncovering buried talents and honing them!
