Why Are You Using the Same Prescription Your Competitor Uses?
Dr. John Loblack
Increasing the confidence and competence of new and emerging leaders
Do you know that no two businesses are the same?
Why then do you insist on using the same band aid your competitor uses?
While the band aid might be exactly what the “doctor” ordered for them, it may not be right for you. In any event, you have not yet diagnosed what ails your business.
Therefore, instead of using the monkey see monkey do approach to problem solving, you would be better served if you invested the time, energy, and money to understand the challenges your business faces.
If you did that, it would be easier for you to prescribe the intervention your business needs to overcome the challenges that may be slowing its growth.
That self-diagnosis approach would lead you to focus on what’s going on inside your business—not on what’s going on outside it. After all, you’ve more control on what’s going on inside your business than you do with what’s going on outside it.
And through that process, you’ll learn that what works in and for one business will not necessarily work in another business. In fact, what helps one business might hurt another.

3 年I agree to what you are saying. However, when business consultants and managers look at bench marking they seldom look at the other variables in their business to differentiate it from their competitors. All they are focus on is coping what the other entity is doing.
