Dear Friends, Colleagues, & Connections -?
It’s now been two years since we started enduring lockdowns, quarantines, and worries about the coronavirus. However, many countries around the world have opened to travelers and continue to ease restrictions. Travel is now being planned at record levels. The entire industry is running behind at the moment - facing more business inflow than in 2019 (a record year) with fewer team members. While this keeps us busy and doing well on the business front - it gives us worry for all our friends and clients who don’t understand the need to plan their trips early.? Read on to hear why we're worried about availability for the remainder of 2022 and all of 2023.?
A few factors currently affecting travel:
- Demand for travel is at levels surpassing 2019, which was a banner year for most destinations. My company, Bell & Bly Travel has already booked as much travel for 2022 as we did for the entire year of 2021 (it is early March!)
- Top hotels in the US are booked up for summer 2021 by mid-March, with some of the most coveted spots fully booked by end of the year 2020
- Internationally, travelers who booked 2020 and some 2021 trips where borders did not open shifted their trips into 2022 and 2023, taking up valuable capacity the industry normally relies on
- Though many borders are open - some sectors of the world remain closed placing more "stress" on the available options
- January through March is known as "busy season" in the travel industry when most travelers rush to start booking travel for the remainder of the year; this year’s rush was much higher than normal meaning many destinations are sold out for high season.?
- In addition to availability concerns, pricing for accommodations will continue to increase as travel dates approach. Planning ahead saves stress and money.?
With the holdover dynamics from the last two years, increased demand, and impending rush on bookings - we are growing worried about 2022 and now 2023 availability for our clients and are encouraging everyone to plan for all of 2022 and some of 2023 as soon as possible.?
A few types of trips that are urgent to plan now:
- Festive - if you’re planning to travel somewhere warm for the holidays in December you should lock in your hotels by the end of April. The sooner the better both for pricing and availability.?
- Domestic hotel bookings - especially luxury dude ranches, anything in Montana/Wyoming, Eastern Seaboard in the summer or for fall foliage. There are small pockets of availability left for 2022 but if this is on your list you should be looking to book for 2023 now.?
- Summer in Europe - availability in the top destinations in Europe for this summer is already VERY slim. Plan by end of April or look to 2023.?
- Safari Summer 2023 - due to holdover trips from 2020 and 2021, the top lodges are pretty fully booked for summer 2022. It would be wise to plan any 2023 safari trips this year.?
- Summer Games in Paris, 2024 - incredibly hotel space for this event is also filling up. Plan by end of 2022.?
I hope this information is helpful! If you’re looking for help with high-end travel for the second half of 2022 or 2023 please reach out. You can tell us more about your travel style HERE and then we’ll set up a call to determine fit.?
Either way, plan early and enjoy getting back out there!
