Why You Should Vacuum Your Stomach

Why You Should Vacuum Your Stomach

We all want a tighter, stronger core. Not only because it looks good but also because it makes evert day tasks easier and you will have less back pain.

So do we need to do endless situps and crunches to get there. No! We just need to vacuum more often.

How dare you sir! You may be thinking. Please allow me to introduce you to the Stomach Vacuum.

What is the Stomach Vacuum?

The stomach vacuum, also known as the abdominal vacuum, is an exercise that targets the deep abdominal muscles. Unlike traditional ab exercises that work the outer muscles, the stomach vacuum focuses on the transverse abdominis, which acts like a natural corset for your waist.?

That’s the sciency explanation. I just tell people it works your Spanx muscles and they tend to get it.

This exercise is all about controlled breathing and engaging your core, helping to tighten and strengthen your midsection.?

How to Perform the Stomach Vacuum

Here’s a step-by-step guide to performing the stomach vacuum:

  1. Start by standing up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart. You can also do this exercise while sitting or lying down. I find it easier lying down.
  2. Take a deep breath in, filling your lungs completely.
  3. Exhale slowly, pushing all the air out of your lungs.
  4. As you exhale, pull your belly button in towards your spine as much as you can. Imagine trying to make your belly button touch your back.
  5. Hold this position for 10-15 seconds, continuing to breathe normally. As you get more comfortable with the exercise, you can gradually increase the hold time.
  6. Release and relax your abdominal muscles.
  7. Repeat this process for 3-5 sets.

Why is the Stomach Vacuum Effective?

  1. Strengthens the Core: Engaging the transverse abdominis helps strengthen the core, providing better support for your spine and reducing the risk of lower back pain.
  2. Flattens the Belly: Regular practice of the stomach vacuum can help flatten your belly by tightening the deep abdominal muscles. Note-it doesn’t get rid of stomach fat, but cinches it up.
  3. Improves Posture: A strong core contributes to better posture, which can alleviate common aches and pains associated with poor alignment.
  4. Supports Overall Health: Engaging the core muscles enhances stability and balance, which are crucial for daily activities and overall fitness.
  5. Time-Efficient: This exercise is quick and can be done almost anywhere, making it easy to incorporate into your daily routine.

The stomach vacuum is one of my favorites because it is a low-impact exercise that can help you achieve a stronger, more toned core. It’s simple, doesn’t require any equipment, and can be done almost anywhere.?

So why not give it a try??

This is the only time I feel comfortable telling a woman she needs to vacuum more often :)
