Why You Should Use LED Balustrade Systems

As LED lighting becomes more standard in design installations, custom options are evolving. Custom LED systems are raising the bar for niche lighting in a variety of industries. When properly installed and concealed, LED lighting within a stair balustrade system can provide increased safety, durability, and design appeal.

More and more designers are trying to move away from standard LED colors and opting for programming systems that offer unique colors, blends, and fades using RGB (red, green, and blue) color mixing technology. By choosing from a wide range of light intensities and lens types, light output or intensity can be customized to meet specific project requirements.

Essential Benefits of LED Lighting

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) offer countless practical and aesthetic benefits over incandescent lamps. LEDs are actually miniature light sources that can operate individually or in multiple chips. Typically, red, green, and blue LEDs are combined together to produce white light. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have the following advantages over traditional incandescent lamps.

Typically use about 25-80% less energy than traditional incandescent lamps to save on energy costs

Last 3 to 25 times longer

LEDs emit light in a specific direction, reducing the need for reflectors and diffusers that can capture light. This feature makes LEDs more efficient in many applications, such as recessed downlights and task lighting (for other types of lighting, light must be reflected in the desired direction and more than half of the light may never leave the fixture).

LEDs emit very little heat. By comparison, incandescent bulbs release 90% of their energy as heat, while CFLs release about 80% of their energy as heat.

Design advantages of LED lighting

Beam spread enhances impact

Beam spread allows for optimal light intensity to match your stair balustrade architectural environment. Beam spread is the amount of space covered by light from different distances. As the light moves away from the reflected light source, it spreads out and becomes less intense.

Light can be dispersed through the wide beam option or focused through the narrow beam option. Wide and narrow combinations can be achieved by selecting an asymmetric beam type.

Project conditions, railing location, and design intent determine where lighting is needed. Light can be dispersed through the wide beam option or focused through the narrow beam option. A combination of wide and narrow can be achieved by selecting an asymmetrical beam type.

Asymmetric beam spread provides beam spread angles of 26 and 60 degrees measured from the center when illumination on either side of the balustrade needs to be changed.

Shown below are beam spread angles of 60, 80, and 120 degrees.

Curved Attractor

Curved LED strips to add a modern and futuristic look to your installation and add side lighting. The curved bar profile conforms to your installation design for a truly custom fit. Curved lights provide more beam width, aiming the LEDs to the side (rather than the center point beam found in straight lights).

Curved rails are available in cool white and warm white in standard and high output only.

More practical and aesthetic benefits.

In addition to the new requirements, there are many other reasons to consider an illuminated balustrade stair system.

Meet building code requirements for handrails and guardrails

Meet stairway lighting requirements

Provide emergency lighting options for exit stairs

Highlight architectural features

Achieve leadership in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)

Bring dedicated lighting to the roadway

Reduce the need for auxiliary lighting from other sources (overhead fixtures, light poles, etc.)

Ends noise generated by light poles and wall pockets

Ability to customize railing designs using glass or cable systems

Use LED technology to achieve energy cost savings

Yongsheng lighting railing options are available for post-mounted and wall-mounted systems for balustrades, etc.

All wiring is concealed within the balustrade system and connected to the point of connection to the electrical service for safety and durability. Service is low voltage and the railing has a special heat sink inside designed to keep the rails cool indoors or outdoors.?email us:[email protected]
