Why you should take a pause

Which is that one thing which can really take our public speaking skills to the next level? That one thing is “pause”.

People actually listen to you if you take proper pauses. When you take pauses, you actually make people a little anxious as to what is coming next. Now there's a difference between speaking slow and taking a pause. Now there's no standard length of any pause, it could be 2 seconds ,3 seconds, 4 seconds, but it’s very important to understand that when to take pause. You should take pause when you have just delivered your core message, your very important line, and when you take a pause after that you're actually respecting the audience. After having delivered the message, you give the audience take to time understand and absorb. In this way you're actually giving respect to your message as well as giving respect to the audience. Also, the length of the pauses varies from speaker to speaker, audience to audience, stage to stage. But it should not be so long that audience starts feeling that you’ve forgotten your speech. Your pauses should not be too short also. So we can just apply a bit of common sense to decide what should be the length of the pause.

So my tip to you is, next time when you are going on the stage make sure that once you have delivered your core message take a pause give time to the audience to understand.
