Why you should spare some time daily for writing. Even if you are not a writer

Writing is a habit. A habit which comes with so many benefits that once you know about them you’d be wondering why you have not been writing for all these years. You might get confused, as to what are we talking about here. Don’t be, as you will get to know the reason “why you ought to spare some time daily for writing, even if you are not a writer” by the time you will end up reading this post.

Have a look at the benefits that the habit of daily writing (even a couple of pages) brings along, and see for yourself -

  1. It acts as a stress buster

The world in which we live in today, every individual is stressed. Everyone is fighting for survival in their race to reach somewhere, but no one knows what their true destination is. And, the stress to achieve that is ultimately killing people. In such a fast paced life, writing can breathe a sense of calmness in your life. In fact, studies have shown that people who write a daily journal are less stressful. They are better able to handle their emotional stress, even when things are going south in their life.

2. It gives you some Me-time

Self realization is important. Even age old scriptures have emphasized on the importance of giving yourself some me-time. And, scientific researches have brought forward conclusions which stress on giving yourself some personal time in order to mentally develop yourself. But, in the fast paced world in which are living, sparing some time for yourself has become impossible. In such a situation, something like writing can be a great medium to give yourself some time to self-assess. Jot down the activities you’ve performed during the day, analyse what more you can do and what will be the impact of these activities.

3. It improves your communication skills

We all have heard the quote money makes the mare go, right? But in the current scenario, it won’t be wrong to state the communication is the one thing that makes the mare go. Whether you have to take a leave from your office, converse with the client, or share your thoughts with anyone in the team, written communication plays a big part. By getting into the habit of daily writing, you can see a definite improvement in your communication skills. Writing something, and then reviewing what you’ve jotted down will help you understand the mistakes you’ve been making. Plus, you can try out different styles of writing in your communication at the same time, and become better at written communication over time.

4. It builds your network

Talk about any of the inspirational entrepreneurs, and you will see they are all active writers. Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook, Marissa Meyer, or any other name that might come to your mind, they all are active writers. In fact, this has been their prime way to interact with the masses. Writing is one of the most powerful ways in which you can make a name for yourself in the market. By sharing your words of wisdom, life experiences which can influence people, or even the mistakes you’ve made in life that others can learn from, you can grow your community. And, build a network that can come handy in your personal as well as professional life.

5. It saves relationships

“Say what you mean, but don’t say it mean.” Anger and frustration are the emotions, which vented out can break even the most loyal of relationships. Sometimes mean words are said out of frustration, and it can ruin relationships. However, if you are into the habit of writing, you can save yourself from this situation. Rather than bombarding the person with some harsh words, you can jot them down and vent out the anger. And, thus come to peace without affecting your relationship with that person.

6. It’s only between you and you

A good thing about writing is that you can share your thoughts, yet you can keep them limited only to yourself. Maintaining a journal is the perfect example for this. You can share whatever comes to mind in your journal, and yet no one else get to know about it. So in a way you can clear your mind of all the thoughts, positive as well as negative, and still maintain the secrecy.

7. It’s fun

Writing is fun. Once you get into the habit of it, you will come to realize that writing is a super-cool way to bring your imagination to life. Not only can you give wings to your thoughts by jotting down even the most crazy things that come to mind, but you can sharpen your analytical skills by practicing the art of writing daily. And, this can put a positive impact on your personal as well as professional life.

Believe it or not, but once you will get into the habit of writing even a single page in a day, you will realize a sense of positive change in yourself. An improved clarity of thoughts, less mental stress, bigger and better network, increased skills for communication and what not, you will achieve all this. But, only if you continue to practice writing in the longer run.

So starting tonight delve into writing some words, set a target of maybe even 750 words a day. And, get started!
