If you have ever had a big decision to make, a problem to solve, a challenge to overcome or sometimes you just don't know what to do I am sure you will recognize these common statements. I suspect most humans recognise some variation of them.
They are actually great advice we give ourselves. They do not at all mean we are indecisive or scared to take action on anything. It's our true nature working exactly as it should, telling us to slow down our Thoughts and to look somewhere else for the answers, beyond our intellect and ego.
You see when we try to create answers by looking outside of ourselves, we will never find them and will only move further away from the answers we seek.
These statements allow us all, humans, to get in touch with our inner wisdom, it's just that people just don't know that's what's going on. Every human recognises the benefit in slowing down their thoughts at one time or another to create the time and space to listen to our inner wisdom. Well at least we try to, it's in our nature.
It's like we know, but don't know, that slowing thinking down, quieting the mind is our actual resting state so we instinctively know to look there for the answers. The paradox is that we all understand that somehow this is a good thing to do, we just don't know why and how to do it.
When we say things like ‘ I want to sleep on it’ it speaks it to life, putting energy into it to create a place of peace, an intent to let the mind quieten so that our inherent inner wisdom can surface and offer up an answer.
Inner wisdom often shows up as insights. You may get a 'gut feeling', also known as our inner wisdom speaking to us through an insight that is a feeling rather than a thought. Insights can show up as a feeling, a nice feeling of understanding of what is to be done.
My mum always says if you don't know what to do, do nothing at all. She does not mean don't make a decision at all or don't ever take action, she means 'do nothing' slow down, allow the murky waters of our thinking to settle. If you had a glass of muddy water, how would you clear it? Well, put it down and let it settle and clear itself. The same goes for our minds.
It is often said that the answer you desire will come to you when you stop thinking about it. It's true, the answers to everything lie within everyone of us and rather than looking out into the world through our contaminated thoughts? - look inwards to your inner wisdom that we are all born with.
The next time you get the sense that you need to sleep on something, honour it and take the time you need for your true nature of wisdom to speak to you, because it always will, all you need to do is quieten and listen. ??
