Why You Should Skip AI-Generated LinkedIn Profile Photos

Why You Should Skip AI-Generated LinkedIn Profile Photos

Artificial intelligence is dominating every aspect of our lives, and much of it is because we are allowing it. While AI has its place, there are areas where it simply does more harm than good. One of these areas is professional networking—specifically, using AI-generated profile photos on LinkedIn.

The Importance of a Real, Unfiltered Photo

Your LinkedIn profile is your first impression. It is meant to represent you—your skills, your experience, and, importantly, your identity. When you use AI to modify or completely generate your profile picture, you create uncertainty about who you really are.

If I were an employer looking to hire and came across a profile that checked all the right boxes, but the profile photo was altered by AI, I would immediately hesitate. It’s just a photo, yes, but if that is artificially generated or enhanced, how much of what I see on the profile is real? I would rather not waste my time trying to figure it out.

A real, undoctored photo is always better. It shows authenticity and professionalism. It tells people that you are comfortable with who you are, which is far more appealing than an artificially polished version.

AI Has Its Place—But Not Here

This is not a rejection of AI altogether. AI serves valuable functions in many industries, from automation to analytics. But in the world of employment and recruitment, authenticity matters more. Hiring managers and business professionals want to know who they are dealing with, not wonder whether an AI-generated image is hiding something.

Be Real—Skip the AI Filters

AI-generated profile photos are as bad as the filters found on social media apps. Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok are flooded with filters that change facial features, smooth out imperfections, and alter reality. While these may be fine for casual social media use, LinkedIn is a professional space. It is not the place for altered images.

A genuine photo speaks volumes about credibility. Take the time to get a proper photo taken—one that reflects who you truly are.

Be real.
