Why You Should Share Your Story

Why You Should Share Your Story

Think back to every interview you’ve ever done. What is the number one question asked in almost every interview? In this case, it’s not really a question but rather a statement — “Tell me about yourself.” Why is this asked so consistently yet so many people struggle to answer? Once I mastered the ability to tell my story, I couldn’t wait for someone to ask me about myself. I hold the power to change someone’s life by sharing my story, and so do you.

Mahatma Gandhi. Martin Luther King Jr. Steve Jobs.

Three powerful leaders in very different arenas.

What did they have in common? They knew how to tell a story. Thinking back throughout history, storytelling is the most powerful vehicle we have as human beings — not a Mercedes Benz vehicle but rather a medium of communication, expression, or display. Storytelling has the capability to influence others along with gaining the trust and confidence of the listeners.

That is why we created the annual Rise and Record event. If you are signed up for my newsletter, you now know all about the event as we just went into detail about it yesterday. At Rise and Record, we want to INSPIRE others to RISE up and SHARE their story. One of the most effective ways to share is through video. Pressing that record button can be frightening, however, all you need is the confidence to do it and you hold the potential to share your story in the palm of your hand.

I am a TV producer — I have done three shows, a movie, and I am constantly publishing video content online. You probably are imagining my apartment filled with camera crews, high-end equipment, and lighting screens but it’s quite the opposite. I film 99 percent of my video content from my phone. If you have a smartphone, or the ability to pay for a smartphone, it will never be easier for you to communicate your message with the world so quickly.

I challenge you to find the courage to share your story. You never know who needs to hear it nor do you know the power it holds until it is shared. Press that record button, tag me in it (if you’d like), and start creating content to change this world.

Best,

BTA
