Why You Should Be More Dog

Something struck me while out the other day...
... We should all be a bit more dog.
I was reading online and saw this quote which said: “Dogs don’t rationalise. They don’t hold anything against a person. They don’t see the outside of a human but the inside of a human”.
And that’s so right.
The observation was made by Cesar Millan, the famous American-Mexican dog trainer, also known as The Dog Whisperer.
His words took me back a few days when I was walking in the local park for my daily outing.
There were quite a few people out with their dogs, enjoying the vast expanse of green grass.
I was captivated by the scene.
Dogs running around, chasing each other. Dogs scampering after a stick or saliva-stricken ball with unbridled enthusiasm and trust. Dogs looking with attentive and affectionate eyes up at their owners. Dogs exploring. Dogs being curious. Dogs being obedient. The odd dog being a little naughty.
Different breeds - terriers, labradors, spaniels and little pugs. Yet all with so much in common. And all bringing their owners – and the casual observer – a great deal of joy.
It got me thinking.
How could we humans be more dog?
What if we could...
- Chase our goals with the focus of a hound hunting down a tennis ball
- Show the compassion and empathy of our favourite pooch
- Demonstrate more loyalty to those around us
- Took more risks
- Got more curious and explored more of the world around us
- Be a little naughty now and again (in a good way)
- Just enjoy the moment more often
How would our lives be then?
So here’s an invitation for the week ahead. Be a little bit more dog.
