Why you should include Scalp Acupuncture when using Facial Motor Points-Michelle Gellis AP DiplAc

Facial motor points have become an increasingly popular modality for treating cosmetic and neuromuscular facial conditions. Used on their own they can be very effective, however adding scalp acupuncture can vastly improve the effectiveness of facial motor points due to scalp Acupuncture's ability to stimulate nerves. Motor points have a unique ability to treat the face due to the size and depth of facial muscles. When used properly, motor points can release heat, which can be a factor in many wind/heat conditions such as Bell’s palsy, stroke, MS and others. Facial motor points also act as a reset switch and can normalize slack muscles which cause sagging skin or tight muscles that contribute to wrinkles.

Scalp acupuncture works on different areas of the brain such as motor, sensory, vision and speech. For central & lower face paralysis, treat the opposite side of the scalp; for the upper face, treat both sides of the scalp. When using the face motor section of the scalp plus the facial motor point which corresponds to the area requiring treatment it can be like a 1-2 punch to cosmetic or neuromuscular facial conditions. If you would like more information on facial motor points and scalp acupuncture, my recorded webinars on advanced techniques in cosmetic acupuncture and treating neuromuscular facial conditions cover these topics.
