Why you should follow the 2023 WhyAfrica Road Trip

Why you should follow the 2023 WhyAfrica Road Trip

After establishing WhyAfrica during Level 5 Covid-19 lockdown, the past December break was an ideal time to reflect on what we’ve achieved since then and to refine our plans for 2023.

We’re about to publish our 61st bi-weekly newsletter. The fifth issue of our exclusive WhyAfrica magazine will be available in print at the Mining Indaba in Cape Town from 6 to 9 February 2023. We’ve also produced our first interactive digital magazine with video clips and interviews we conducted during our 2022 Southern Africa Road Trip.

WhyAfrica completed this unique and challenging experience (with the support of our fantastic sponsors and partners) in 45 days after driving almost 9000 kilometres through five countries and visiting more than 35 project sites.

The Road Trip was such a success that it will now become an annual event. In 2023, we’ll visit the Limpopo Province of South Africa, Zimbabwe or Botswana (depending on the political climate in Zimbabwe in the run-up to the general elections), Zambia, DRC, Malawi, Tanzania and Kenya.

We’ll once again visit projects in the mining, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, water management, tourism, conservation, environmental management, and development sectors, with a strong focus on ESG, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and biodiversity and political risk.

In addition to visiting the project sites, we hope to interview as many role players in these countries as possible so that our opinions and insight is balanced and not biased. ?

In November last year, we launched our WhyAfrica membership initiative. To be a member means that you’ll get more in-depth information about the opportunities and challenges companies face when doing business in Africa and at the same time, we make sure that you stay up to date with how geopolitics and the changing political economies in Africa affect your business.

The best thing about being a member though, is that we’ll publish your story, or your company’s story, on the WhyAfrica platform and social media networks, which will give you exposure to possibly more than 50?000 readers, followers, and connections. ??

As a WhyAfrica member you could get an opportunity to join us on certain legs of our Road Trip. This year we’re also planning two very informal networking events for our WhyAfrica partners, sponsors and members, and hope to have some of the stakeholders involved in the projects and countries that we’ll visit during out trip present at these events. Our first event will be in Johannesburg, South Africa, two days before we depart, and the second networking event will take place in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, about halfway through the trip. ?

Towards the end of our 2023 trip, we’ll have a week to take a break, but it does not mean we’ll rest. We’re going to use this time to discuss what we’ve experienced during our overland journey with any of our members who would like to join us for a, let’s call it, challenging experience in Tanzania – ideal for team building as well. But more about this exciting opportunity later in the year.

The WhyAfrica Road Trip offers immense marketing and branding opportunities for companies doing business in Africa, as well as being a great event to be associated with. The aim of our annual Road Trip is to promote business in Africa, and to promote Africa as a world class investment and tourist destination. So if you do business in Africa, no matter where, support WhyAfrica and continue following us through Africa. When it comes to the sustainable utilisation of natural resources in Africa, we cover all angles. ?

To become a member, or to advertise in our newsletter or magazines, is as easy as clicking on the link. We’ve upgraded our system so you can now pay directly online. ??
