I get it that it’s not easy to Let it GO!! To let go of a Physical space inhabited: The Office


Those were the days when Corporate leaders only thought in terms of business strategies, it has become much more broader spectrum now. People engagement & interconnect through the space they inhabit is gaining attention of leaders whose focus is on Employee retention & enhancement.


Consider some of the factors before scrapping the idea of moving to a new space & only sticking to the existing one. If you think your current space is showing any of these signs, then definitely it's time to Letting GO. Remember that relocating, presents an opportunity for a fresh start. 


Unbalanced Work-Life Balance

I have heard reasons for leaving past jobs due to commutation or remote location on multiple occasions.Fostering a sense of work-life balance is essential to staff happiness, productivity & retention. 

If your office is in an undesirable location, then you may have trouble attracting the kind of talent you need to meet the demands of your business. This is especially true for companies that require employees with highly specialized skills and technical expertise. A convenient location is also a key to serving your target market—whether that means being closer to clients, distributors, or even the competition.

Good connectivity, proximity to amenities, including shops, eateries, green spaces, making it convenient for people to break the monotony of the environment by getting in & out of the office. Ponder that how far your current employees have to travel to reach the office on time, how good is the connectivity to the place. If they are spending more time in commuting, then definitely it's time to hunt for a better location.


No Room for Growth

Your office space should be flexible to accommodate changes, if it’s not, then it is time to do Location hunting.

Every growth demands extra space. Restriction in movement, forced to share compact desks, competing for meeting rooms, not finding a place to eat lunch peacefully can cause friction between staff & shift your employee’s views of the company.

A company that has recently moved to a better, brighter office is also likely to look more impressive in the eyes of prospective employees and clients alike. It’s a signal of success, determination and dynamism, you aren’t just standing still, letting the company fall into a routine.


It's not reflecting your brand

Workplace is a reflection of your brand. Changing business image needs changed office image too. Your office should reflect the beliefs and values of your organization. If it doesn’t, you’ve got a good reason to move.

An NGO with a Luxurious office & prime location will have tough time raising funds, an office not fitting your brand image could be detrimental to business, in comparison to the cost of shifting it to a place according to the company image.

An unprofessional setting will send the wrong message to prospective clients, offices creates an impression of team and its work. Choosing an office space that fits your corporate culture can help you attract and retain the best talent. It may move you from the city to the suburbs, or from a historic building to a newly constructed office complex.



Take cue from Real Estate

You were wise in past & made a thoughtful investment by entering into an up-and-coming neighborhood. Favorable real-estate means, it's time for a profitable return. Upgrade yourself by taking advantage of time & reap the benefits of your modest investment. Do not stick to the boundaries of time, it’s OK if this was not your original plan, be flexible.

In another scenario, you might have office space in the neighborhood where renovation means you can no longer afford rents. It’s a fiscal responsibility to move on keeping the emotions aside in this scenario.


 When you move your office for the right reasons, it is an exciting time in your company’s history. Your staff will know you’ve been paying attention, and they will be dedicated to making your new office, and your business, a success

If you look at history, innovation doesn’t come just from giving people incentives; it comes from creating environments where their ideas can connect.”
