Why You Should Be Confident In What You Do

Tara was never keen on horse boxes. Although this isn't unusual for other horses too. So this meant when we moved livery yards that were some distance apart. It often involved some worry for me. Would she go in? How long will it take?

I tried a variety of calmers to help. Some herbal like Valerian and others not. But Tara wasn't silly. She wasn't ever going to let herself feel so relaxed she'd walk straight into a horse box. Oh-except for the one time of course when she was desperate to leave the equestrian centre we were at! That time she rushed up the ramp!

I remember one time though when our technique to load her, was exhausting for all concerned. We tried lunge lines as guides so she'd not run out. Up she walked and straight back down the ramp. Up and down. Side to side. It took ages to get her into the lorry. Over an hour.

When we got to the new livery yard. The first thing that Tara did was go into her new stable. Beautiful thick straw bed. And laid down and started snoozing. She'd found the horse box experience tiring. But the new livery yard managers instead saw a great character and said "what a sweet horse". And that she was!

Thinking back to this always makes me smile. But goes to show that appearances are deceptive. And no matter how much effort or time something has taken you to prepare. The people who see the outcome. Will usually not see the efforts you've made to get there.

It can be easy to think that a project you're working on is taking so much time. Is it worth it? Or will your customer appreciate the efforts you've made? Or will they see you've had to make more of an effort than you'd like. And somehow think this undermines your expertise and knowledge? Surely people who you admire and deliver a good service find it easy?

You maybe surprised. Often others don't find everything easy. But it doesn't matter what their story is. Only yours is important to you. You are where you need to be. Enjoy the experience, whether it's a long task or a shorter one. Either way, it's not a race against anyone. Be the best you can be. And let the results your customers see the result!

Tara let her new equestrian centre start seeing her in a positive light. She always danced to her own tune. And it helped her live life to the full!
