Why you should attend a #ResponsiveOrg Meetup

I had the great pleasure of attending a #ResponsiveOrg meetup in London today. It's an unstructured meetup of those interested in building more transparent, open, human workplaces, away from the control and hierarchy of the industrial era.
We had a great mix of people from different industries: law, technology, insurance, consumer product goods, and others. It wasn't just a group of consultants either - there was a good number of people working in organizations as employees. Everyone shared the goal of helping organizations change for the better.
The unstructured nature of the event meant we could pick activities and topics that suited the participants. Today, we did some responsive "speed dating" and sharing responsive change stories. This means that the meetup is only as good as the effort participants are willing to put into sharing their stories (both successes and fails) and building their network(s). I learned a few gems thanks to the openness of the other participants.
I got a lot out of today's meetup and I'm looking forward to working with others in Vancouver to get a schedule going there. I highly encourage anyone interested in learning from others about the future of organizations to attend a meetup. Just be prepared to talk, share and learn. It's a worthwhile experience.
