Why You Should Always Be Growing!

Why you should always be growing could cover a lot of territory. From our health to our finances to our education. In this short discussion we are going to focus on your business.

2008, or Back to the Future:

Prior to 2008, things were booming, and we had businesses tell us they had all the business they could handle and didn’t need anymore. We had tiny little companies up to giant, multi-nationals tell us the same thing, we don’t need any help and we don’t need more business. Fast forward to:

COVID and the Great Shutdown:

When COVID hit and the government shut our economy down, most people went into panic mode. Would they have a job when this was over, would their company survive this and what’s next?

Here We Go Again?

Now the economy is better than it was but now we are fighting inflation and a myriad list of other issues that we can’t go into here. The same people that said they didn’t need any more business are asking for help and they should because you should “Always Be Growing!”

In his book “Always Growing,” Jones Loflin wrote: “You are always a gardener – What grows and how it grows is up to you.”

What a great point! What we are growing and HOW we are growing is up to us. But the fact remains that we must always be growing.

Look Around:

Most of us have been told to look at nature and notice if it isn’t growing it’s dying. Look at certain cities or areas of cities and you will see whether they’re growing or dying. If you stop mowing a field, guess what, it keeps growing. After the grass come the weeds, the scrubs and eventually some trees.

The Point:

The point is, nothing stops growing and we can’t either. Even the areas of the cities that are left to decay are still growing. Soon weeds and trees will take over and pull the buildings down. We don’t want that to happen to your business and all that you worked for, for so long.

Adopt and Adapt:

We must adopt a mindset to keep growing no matter what. No matter how good or bad the economy is, keep growing. You may have to adapt, or pivot to continue to grow but you must keep going.

There are times that we run into a wall, and it seems like there is no way around it. Sometimes there isn’t so we need to find a way over, under or through it. But we must find a way.

Merrill Hoge played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and was one of my favorite football players when I was younger. What an awesome athlete and a great guy. Unfortunately, after a brilliant career, he was diagnosed with cancer. He had to find a way to fight back, to keep going, to make it through. Not only did he survive, but he also started the “Find A Way” foundation and is helping people all over, he kept going and growing. Mr. Hoge is a huge inspiration for us all.

Conclusion:

All of us will go through difficult times in life. We will all face decision times and must find a way to keep growing. Remember, if you are always growing you will always be harvesting!
