Why You Need to Take Risks to Succeed

“Living with fear stops us taking risks, and if you don't go out on the branch, you're never going to get the best fruit.”

--Sarah Parish

Taking a risk is scary. Especially because you have no idea how things will turn out, we can’t predict the future, and there's always a big chance that things won't work out at all. However, the reality is you absolutely must take risks to grow and succeed.

We are on a journey of three blogs looking at the issue of fear and its effect on our lives and success.? The first looked at why we are afraid to ask for help and the second looked at why we are so afraid of failure and how this fear paralyzes us.? Now we will examine why we must take risks to succeed.

After looking at fear, which is imperative for us to keep track of in the interview room we will examine the issue of hope and how giving hope to others is so important.? Especially in interviewing. ?After looking at fear and hope we will discuss the importance of employing themes in interviewing to fully obtain the truth.? Themes are inextricably connected to the subjects of fear and hope.

So, we must overcome fear to take risks and it involves a combination of mindset shifts, practical strategies, and gradual exposure to fear-inducing situations. Here are some suggestions to help you overcome fear and take risks:

  1. Understand Your Fear: Identify and acknowledge the specific fears that are holding you back. Be authentic in examining this. Explore the root causes of your fear to gain insight into why you feel this way. What has caused these foundational issues.
  2. Set Clear Goals: Define your goals and what you hope to achieve by taking risks. Much like in interviewing, planning is essential to identifying these objectives. Break down larger goals into smaller, more manageable steps to make the process less overwhelming and more attainable.
  3. Shift Your Mindset: Embrace a growth mindset, viewing challenges and failures as opportunities for learning and growth. Focus on the potential positive outcomes rather than dwelling on the fear of failure.
  4. Start Small: Gradually expose yourself to low-risk situations to build confidence. Success in smaller endeavors can boost your self-esteem and make larger risks seem more manageable.
  5. Develop Resilience: Cultivate resilience by learning from failures and setbacks. Understand that setbacks are a natural part of growth and an opportunity to refine your approach.
  6. Focus on the Process, Not Just the Outcome: Concentrate on the actions you need to take rather than solely on the potential outcome. Right in line with the interviewing process. This shift in focus can help alleviate anxiety about the unknown.

Remember that overcoming this fear is a gradual process, and it's okay to take small steps initially. By consistently facing your fears and taking calculated risks, you can build the confidence and resilience needed to navigate challenges successfully.

For growth we must address and conquer our fears.? There are a plethora of reasons to take risks in order to succeed. We must take risks and move forward. Here are just a few:

You’ll Miss Out on Opportunities

Every time you take a risk, you open the doors to new opportunities that wouldn't appear without risk. If you never take a risk, you may never get the opportunity to do some amazing things.

An example of this would be wanting to quit your job to start a business but being too scared to give up a steady income. However, if you were to take the risk, you would have plenty of hours during the day to seek out customers and be exposed to opportunities that you would otherwise miss sitting in your office job. ?When I retired, I started my own business and for me it was way out of my comfort zone.? It was unusual for me and difficult, but it gave so many opportunities for growth and change that I otherwise would have never experienced.

You’ll Gain Confidence

A major aspect of achieving success is being confident in yourself and your abilities. Is your confidence lacking a little bit? Well, taking some risks in your life can help with this. Although you may not always land on your feet, when you do, you'll learn a lot about yourself in the process and gain lots of valuable confidence in your abilities.

Even if the risk doesn't go well, you can always give yourself a confident pat on the back, knowing you tried your best! The lessons learned will also build confidence and strength to keep moving forward and expanding your universe.

You Learn Lessons

As mentioned multiple times, you can fail when you take a risk. Even if this happens to you, this is actually a positive thing because you will learn some valuable lessons when this happens.

The lessons you learn from failure will help you grow wiser and stronger and make better decisions in the future. Plus, now you know one way how not to succeed.

Playing it Safe is the Same as Doing Nothing

You’ll never pursue your dreams by sitting on the couch doing nothing. And if you are too afraid to take risks, this is the same thing as doing nothing. Resolve to step out of your comfort zone right away, take a risk, and get moving towards that goal you have always wanted to achieve.

Are you ready to start achieving success in your life? It’s time to start the process by taking a risk. Even if the risk doesn’t end well, you’ll open yourself up to opportunity, confidence, and learning new lessons—all of which are good things that will inevitably lead you to success.
