Why you need to take the plunge and create a Capsule Wardrobe

A capsule wardrobe isn’t a new concept. In fact, it has been around for years, originating in London in the 1970s.
But over the last 10 years the capsule wardrobe has been gaining momentum largely due to our focus on sustainability, and the fact that we are extremely busy people and need to save time where we can!
Why?
In short – A capsule wardrobe causes you to feel less stress in general about your clothes. A capsule wardrobe helps you weed out the items you don’t love, don’t look great in, or don’t feel great in. You’re left with a wardrobe of clothes you look and feel your best in. It’s easy to decide what to wear.
Recently due to a number of factors, one of my clients decided she needed to take back some control over her life. It all seemed to be so cluttered and messy, which was having a direct impact on how she felt and her own mental health. Something needed to change.
Her wardrobe was the first aspect she wanted to tackle, so she called me up and we set about the challenge of both reducing and organising her overly busy wardrobe.
She had watched so many videos, and read endless amounts of articles but the more she read the more she realised that a capsule wardrobe would give her back that control. Whilst providing simplicity to her morning routine which she so desperately need. A working mum of 2 doesn’t have time to stand in front of a wardrobe for hours deciding what to wear, what goes with what and trying to remember where she left that jacket?
We all have our own unique sense of style. There are items in our wardrobe that we feel comfortable in. There are certain pieces that make us feel good about ourselves. We naturally always revert back to those particular items. However, we still buy the trend pieces, even if they are out of our comfort zone. Or we will see an item in the sale (or black friday) and think “oh I have to buy this as its just such a bloody bargain!”
The next minute you have a wardrobe that’s practically bursting at the seams with a whole host of pieces that you will never wear. In addition, this contributes to the frustration of getting dressed every morning. Who has the time!?
The Concept.
The concept is simple. Fewer items, a more streamlined edit of all of your favourite pieces. Which can all be mixed and matched to provide a more organised sustainable approach to dressing. A tidy wardrobe = a tidy mind – very Marie Kondo.
The Misconception.
There is a misconception that comes with the ‘Capsule Wardrobe’, in the sense that we are lead to believe, we need to purchase a whole new wardrobe or throw out lots of clothes. This is absolutely not true. And indeed, if this was the case, clearly not at all sustainable!
Every Capsule Wardrobe is different. It comes down to personal style and what you feel comfortable in. I am guessing you will already own at least 50% of the items you need. You can change the amount of items that works for you, and remember to think about your lifestyle (what you actually need & wear)
You can then take your time with it. Replace a few old items with one new quality piece, once a month for example. It really is achievable for all budgets.
My Advice.
If like my client, you are noticing that your buying habits are rather excessive and getting dressed in a morning is just so overwhelming you feel exhausted thinking about it? Let’s take the plunge together – Book a Wardrobe Session.
