Why You Need to Quit Soda Today!
Many of my clients I have worked with over the years have had one thing in common: they have been connoisseurs of soda drinks. This is not news to anyone reading this article. Everyone knows soda is one of the worst things we can take into our bodies. Yet so many people are addicted to it, simply can't function without it. They love the taste, they use it as their way to get energy during the workday and to be quite frank, it is an easy choice, it requires no thinking, just grab a soda and go.
Besides the obvious consumption of sugar that we take in with soda, it also increases our cravings for other sweets, leading to a compounding effect in our sugar intake in any given day. And those of you who think you are safe because your soda says DIET in front of it, you are not off the hook either. Sure they may have less sugar, but the sweet flavor still gives you cravings for sugary foods. And the chemicals in diet soda do a lot of damage. A study published in March 2015 in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society found that diet soda intake is directly related to abdominal obesity in adults over age 65. The increase in waist circumference among diet soda drinkers was three times the amount in nondrinkers. The bigger your circumference the greater chance for heart disease, and other diseases aint nobody want: CANCER, DIABETES, OBESITY, LIVER DISEASE, and other CARDIOVASCULAR diseases.
Back to my clients, before I even offer to create any nutrition plan with them, we focus solely on getting them off soda. It is really hard to consume healthy foods when soda is a part of your diet. Simply eliminating soda from their diet we see quick results. Lots of weight loss, energy levels increase, less headaches, cravings for sweets decrease, and they start to enjoy the sweet refreshing hydration of water. This is not an easy task. Some people have been drinking 2-3+ sodas every day for decades. To simply replace soda with water is a Goliath task. That is why it is important to look for substitutes. I have to say currently helping my father get off soda has been very exciting to me. he has been drinking Diet Cola for as long as I can remember. He has had some health issues as of late and I have been working with him to get off of soda. We have had about 10 days sober because I gave him something to replace it with that he loves and has kept him from reaching for his Diet Cola. He feels better, has great energy, has better cognitive focus, and he also doesn't crave all the sugary treats that once was a daily consumption in his diet. If you are interested in what it is I have him taking feel free to message me. Replacing soda with high-in-sugar fruit juices or tea and coffee drinks loaded with added refined sugar isn’t much better for your health.
When it comes to changing your nutrition to live a healthier life, I would start with eliminating soda first. Start today! If not cold turkey, start with the amount of soda you are taking in per day. If you have 5 a day, try to get down to 3 and so on and so forth.
I know it taste good, but would you rather have teeth, a longer healthier life, and avoid some ugly diseases that sugar helps increase the chances of getting??
Let me know how I can help you to eliminate soda from your diet.
