Business can sometimes seem a little like this…

You have to do battle with competitors, suppliers, market conditions, rising costs, and a whole load of other things. It can all get quite fearsome.

But the biggest battle you have may be with someone you don’t suspect of causing you problems:

Yep - you!

You’ll almost certainly have to go to war with yourself at some point. And you should embrace it.

The overwhelming voice of resistance

Every morning, I wake up to go to the gym and the same voice speaks to me:

“Go back to sleep, you need your rest”

In fact, any time I want to do something of significance in my life, I’m met with this same voice of resistance.

And I have a clear choice…

Ignore it or fight it.

I know that, unless I fight this voice, I’ll achieve nothing, so I push myself to get up and take the action.

It’s like this in virtually every aspect of life.

If you want to be successful, have the nice car, the fit body, the great relationship, you need to overcome the resistance and do what it takes to make it happen.

As a business owner, you should also hear this voice when tough decisions come along. But it’s not something to be fearful of. It’s natural and should be something to embrace.

Winning the war on resistance

Human beings - like most creatures at the top of the food chain - are energy conservative…

We only like to expend our energy when we’re sure of a return on it.

But business comes with no guarantees of returns. We must do the work to increase the chance of returns.

Because we naturally conserve energy, the moment we have to consider something significant requiring this energy, we have to access the rational part of the brain - and that’s where resistance lives.

It’s also where the fight comes from as you decide to push on ahead.

Successful people know that where there is resistance, there is reward: the things that you’re most resistant to is where success lies.

Just like lifting weights

Think of it like weight lifting. If you lift the weight consistently, your muscles get bigger but you need the resistance to help you become stronger, fitter, faster and better.

Overcoming resistance leads to expansion and that’s the way to create a life of meaning and power.

Nobody will do the work for you. You must literally go to war with yourself every single day to overcome the voice of resistance.

To win at anything, you may first have to overcome yourself!
