Why you need a Focused Prospect List.
Prospecting is one of the most important aspects of a successful business, yet it's also one of the most challenging. It can be difficult to know where to start, especially when you're trying to grow your business. That's why it's so important to focus on creating a prospect list rather than a vague description of who MIGHT be able to work with you. In this blog post, we'll talk about how to harness the power of intention and how to focus your efforts in order to find more referral partners and generate more leads.
The power of intention in your prospecting efforts cannot be overstated. When you have a clear and focused vision of who you want to reach, it may seem as if the universe will often align in order to make it happen.
We often think that if we get narrow and specific we miss out on opportunity, but the opposite is actually true.
?Let me share an example: when I first started my coaching business, I would attend a networking event and there was a lady there who represented a cosmetics company. She would provide her prospect description as ‘anyone with skin and hair’. ?To contrast, another financial advisor would bring 2 names off the book of lists of the individual decision maker within a company she was looking to meet.
?Guess which one had the best results?
?Stay with me for a minute longer to understand how this works. There are sooo many things inundating our brains that we have built some pretty high filters. Those filters often make us miss the best opportunities. When you recognize how to break through those filters, it’s not with a sledgehammer, but more of a tiny pin that makes it through.
?You want to be introduced to people, not companies, not issues or challenges – people.

?When you make your prospect profile, you want to be as specific as possible. Even down to making a list of names. I LOVE it when the Business Journal publishes their Book of Lists and I can sort through a list of top companies in a segment.
?Now let me tell you few more reasons why that list will be helpful in case you are still on the fence about building a specific description and top prospects list. ?
Understanding what you need from your prospects and having an intentional plan for how to reach them allows you to focus your efforts more effectively. Many of us are working with small budgets, or no budgets for marketing, so every effort counts and is often our time which is your greatest asset and the one you can least afford to waste.
People are thinking of one person in the world, and it’s not you or your company. When creating a focused prospect list, start by first defining your ideal customer and what they need from you. Understanding them is key to any of your marketing efforts. Knowing the type of people that you can solve the biggest issue or challenge makes it easier to target those prospects and create relationships with them.
Once you have identified the prospects that fit your criteria, segment them into different cohorts based on their interests, goals, and objectives. This way you can tailor your content and message to each group and maximize the effectiveness of your communication.
With a focused prospect list, you are able to save time on outreach and focus more attention on closing deals with qualified opportunities. Additionally, it will provide clarity for yourself and your network about who you are targeting, what you are offering them, and how you can best deliver value. Overall, a focused prospect list is essential to growing your business and reaching the right people with the right message.
By having a clear and focused vision of who you want to reach, your conscious mind will more readily recognize the right moves to make to reach that perfect prospect. With this power of intention guiding our prospecting efforts, we can be sure that we’re attracting only those customers who are most likely to convert for us – as well as build relationships that will lead to your best prospect or career opportunities.
