Success is usually marked by how much attention you can get for yourself, your products and your ideas. The right amount of attention will always attract criticism, haters and skeptics. While criticism is rarely recognized as a positive, it must be anticipated when trying to get your name out there and projects known. The longevity of a project is determined by the quality of what you offer, the success of your project is determined by how much attention you can get for it.
You could have the best product in the world, but without the right amount of attention no one will know about it. Which is why you must first garner the attention of your audience to allow them to find value with what you offer. Success is first determined by how much attention you can get for your product, service or idea!
The problem with getting attention and putting yourself or product “out there” is threefold:
1) Taking enough action to get the 'right amount' of attention
2) Knowing how to handle the negative criticism that comes with attention
3) Ability to continue to garner attention, despite the attacks
Even the most successful people in all fields and businesses that have successfully generated tremendous amounts of attention for themselves, their products and projects have become the targets of criticism, even hateful attacks. If you go back in history to even the biblical times anyone that truly gets the world's attention will be attacked! There are no exceptions to this rule.
I personally have elevated awareness about myself, my companies, services and products through writing five best-selling books, leveraging social and traditional media, writing articles for various outlets, blogging, personal appearances, speeches, webinars and more. I never slow down and make my own news each and every single day. While my message has successfully impacted people around the world, I have critics and haters who sound-off on anything I say and do. It comes with the territory and the commitment to move through the criticism and continue getting attention has helped me become the successful entrepreneur I am today.
Remember these important points about criticism and success:
1) Get so much attention you start to get criticism
2) Disregard the criticism and continue to get even more attention
3) Criticism will increase to new levels, even lies, which will ultimately escalate the amount of attention
4) Never attack the haters
5) Continue getting attention, disregarding the criticism, until it becomes admiration, at which point the haters will move on to pick another target
Unfortunately, the goal of criticism is almost never to actually help. When was the last time you heard criticism that offered a possible solution? Lastly, the 'haters' most likely don’t actually hate you. They are usually jealous and threatened by your success. The more attention you receive, the more they are reminded of their inferior products and unwillingness to take the right amount of action to make their own projects successful! With social media giving everyone a voice today, people make it their jobs to hate on others and hide behind their computer or phone. If they put that effort into advancing themselves, they would benefit more. Negative responses are so predictable that you should actually use it as an indicator that you are starting to get the right amount of attention.
Be great,

9 年I'm with you Grant. We must take personal responsibility to seek criticism and then use that criticism as a tool for growth. To look for truth in even the most hurtful criticism. To explore why some criticism is delivered with so much passion. To understand how prompting that kind of response confirms your ability to influence people to an outcome and figure out how to ultimately take that energy and use it to achieve the outcome you want to achieve... to make a difference for the better.
