This Is Why You Need to Create Video Content

Let me be the first to tell you: creating video content sucks… at first.
It’s awkward, uncomfortable, and you fear people might be making fun of you and sharing your videos in group chats (at least that was my fear anyhow).
The list of worries goes on and on.
But hear me out—all of these reasons are exactly why you should be creating video content.
On the spectrum of introvert/extrovert, I lean heavily on the introverted side. Putting myself out there has never come easy to me, and it’s a mental barrier that I’ve had to work hard to overcome.
The first time I created a video for social media, it was horrible. Like, really horrible. I knew what I wanted to talk about, I was qualified to talk about it, but the second I pressed record, my mind went blank.
It was BEYOND frustrating.
“Maybe creating video content just isn’t for me."
"Maybe I’m not cut out for this.”
"Maybe I'm not even qualified enough to talk about what I want to talk about."
As a natural-born perfectionist, my toxic trait is quitting things the minute I am not perfect at them. I expected to put on an Oscar-nominated performance the first time I recorded a video.
What I've come to realize is this is just not how the world works.
Creating video content is like a muscle. The first few attempts are going to be rough. The next batch, maybe a little better, and slowly over time, you’ll really improve.
Because creating video content is really hard, not many people do it. Or, they’re like a past version of myself, quitting after the first couple of videos.

The people who are creating video content and consistently putting themselves out there are the ones who are winning.
The barrier to entry is a lot lower because of how difficult it is, meaning there are a ton of niches ripe for the taking.
Here are some statistics to further convince you that you need to be creating video content:

Every creator you’ve ever watched has had a first video. And I guarantee you, if you go back and watch their first 20 videos, they aren’t a pretty sight. But the difference between them and other people is that they put in the reps and continued to create. They worked through the frustration, practiced, posted, and refined their strategy.
What you see in top creators is their success, but what you don’t see is all the time, effort, and frustration they put into learning how to create content. Every viral video, every well-executed post, is the result of countless hours of practice and persistence. They didn’t start at the top; they worked their way up, one imperfect video at a time.
As a disclaimer, I know I’m no Mr. Beast. I don’t have a follower count in the millions (yet), and I’m not pretending that I do. I am simply sharing my personal experience while I am still relatively early on in my content creation journey, so I can:
1. Encourage you to create content yourself and
2. Have a point of reflection someday
The journey of creating video content is just that—a journey. It's about showing up, putting in the effort, and embracing the suck.
If you’re hesitant, consider this your push to get started. The world needs your voice, your story, and your unique perspective. Start creating, keep pushing, and watch as you grow into the content creator you aspire to be.
You'll get at least one like and comment from me (hehe).

2 个月This hits hard Kylee Renouf. I used to get so much anxiety to film content with my video coach! Even when the coaching prompts were straightforward, I wanted to be so precise and smart, that I’d lose track of where I was going. I’m most comfortable on daily video calls so I created my own system using voice commands to bring the price down from $1000 to $150 per minute! And that’s when it hit me…other thought leaders and subject matter experts need an easy button to scale authenticity using video too. Beta launch in a few weeks????

9 个月I couldn’t relate more to feeling embarrassed about posting video for fear of people talking about it or thinking it was dumb. However, after challenging myself to post video content, I have to say, I’ve really only been met with compliments. And, it really does become easier the more you do it! Thanks for the great read, Kylee!
