Why you need to add metrics to your C.V.

Why you need to add metrics to your C.V.

If I had a pound for every bit of job seeking advice I saw on LinkedIn over the last few months I would be a billionaire and I wanted to focus on one very specific aspect which is often overlooked. Lets talk metrics, achievements.

Metrics play a vital role in showcasing your skills, capabilities, and potential as a candidate in your C.V. Including metrics and achievements in your CV not only adds credibility to your claims but also helps employers and hiring managers understand the tangible impact you have made in your previous roles. Here are some reasons why metrics and achievements are important in your CV:

  1. Quantifiable evidence: Metrics provide concrete evidence of your performance and accomplishments. They demonstrate the outcomes and results you have achieved in your previous roles, making your achievements more tangible and easier to understand for potential employers.
  2. Differentiation: Including metrics and achievements in your CV sets you apart from other candidates. While job descriptions and responsibilities may be similar across different candidates, your quantifiable accomplishments demonstrate your ability to deliver results and go above and beyond expectations.
  3. Impact and value: Metrics highlight the value you have brought to your previous employers. By quantifying your achievements, you can showcase how you have positively influenced key performance indicators, such as revenue growth, cost savings, customer satisfaction, or efficiency improvements. This helps employers assess the potential impact you can have on their organization.
  4. Stronger credibility: Metrics add credibility to your claims and provide evidence that supports your skills and abilities. It demonstrates that you have a track record of success and can deliver measurable results. Employers are more likely to trust and consider candidates who can provide concrete evidence of their capabilities.
  5. Easy comparison: Metrics provide a common ground for comparing candidates. Hiring managers can quickly evaluate the scope and impact of your achievements, making it easier to assess your qualifications and suitability for the role.
  6. Goal-oriented mindset: Including metrics and achievements in your CV reflects your goal-oriented mindset and your ability to set targets and meet or exceed them. It demonstrates your focus on results and your commitment to continuous improvement.

What does this mean in reality?

If you are an SDR, how many calls did you make a week, how many opportunities did you generate and what dollar value did that pipeline have. If you're a sales rep what was you annual target and how did you perform against it, what were your significant deals, how did you compare against your team. If you are a customer success manager what was your GRR (Gross Revenue Retention) VS NRR (Net Revenue Retention) what was your renewal rates ect, ect.

When including metrics and achievements in your CV, remember to be specific and provide context. Use numbers, percentages, or other relevant metrics to quantify your achievements. Additionally, tailor your metrics and achievements to the specific job or industry you are applying to.

With over 100 applicants per position it is critical you do whatever you can to stand out from the competition and that you can add value to your next employer.
