Why You Must Start With Offer Not Message

This has been my first full week back to "work" mode and I have noticed that when I really step back and honour the natural ebb and flow, what feels true to me, the new begins to appear.


Sometimes we are trying so hard that we miss what a more quiet mind is trying to get through to us. Honouring a life change takes some space but it also takes some courageous action too.


As I have begun to speak to various current and new clients this week there have been some interesting themes emerging - no matter how different each one is.


See if you resonate with any of these:

  • The desire to take the next step and know that person you are trusting to guide you understands and can actually do what they are promising (evidence) - They needed me to demostate how I could help them and what I would do to get them where they wanted to go.
  • Self doubt creeping in either because it's a brave new first step or because there have been many steps without the longed for success. They needed me to help them clarify what the real problem was and what was the next practical step (even practical psychology) to get them into a new way of being and feeling.
  • A misunderstanding of the stage of jounrey they were at. For example. one wanted to do more intense 1-1 but felt she should do group as everyone was doing that ( we strategised her uplveling as a thought leader) and another was a gigging singer (tribute band) and needed me to plan the best way to stay vocally healthy (yes I still work with musicians)


The ability to not only identify the real problem, but demonstrate what I would do to help them and how we would do that, meant they had immediate trust in me. No BS, all in their best interest. It is way easier to communicate the message when you are clear on what the offer is.


Can you do that confidently?

Explain what you do quickly, succinctly and in language that makes sense to the person you are talking to?


If you can you will be in demand....always and find it easier to come back into working situations that you might have to stop for whatever reason.


If you can't, then no matter how hard you try it will feel like you can't quite get the plane to land with someone and they brush you off because it all feels too complicated or too vague for them to work out out if your solution will work for them.


Here's the thing... it doens't matter if you are in business, or if you are employed looking for upgrades or if you are a musician part or full time. everyone has to be able to communicate the value of their work to people who have the ability or money to say yes or no.
