'Doctor's make the worst patients'
We've all heard this age old adage, right? Well, I can tell you from my time in hospitals when I was at med school that it's more than true.
It's also true that nutritionists and practitioners supporting others are often the worse for supporting themselves!
We dish out amazing advice to our clients, but often forget to take it ourselves.
You've all been on an aeroplane and been told to put your mask on first before helping others right?
Well this is not just for fun, this rule is there for a reason.
If you pass out helping someone else, you not only create more work for others who now need to help you, but you also can't help as many people. If you took a few seconds to prioritise yourself and get your mask on your could help many more people.

This goes for working in practice as well.
In my opinion there is nothing more rewarding than a career where you get to help people. Helping people with their health especially is something I find very rewarding and I love it, wouldn't change it for the world. But make no mistake dealing with everyone else's illnesses and health issues is stressful and it's intense. It's also highly responsible and we often feel this weight on us. It can also be very emotionally draining, we make close connections with our clients, get to know them on a very personal level and become very invested in how they are doing.
This is what makes the job so special.
It's also what make the job so demanding.
And it's the reason we must look after ourselves as practitioners first.
It's the same reason why any business owner must look after their own health.
One functional medicine practitioner I trained under was adamant that we charge the appropriate amount for the work we do, in his words undercharging is a killer. Now he wasn't a business coach, he was a fellow practitioner. He wasn't talking about it being a killer for your business or earnings, he was talking about it being a health killer for you.
So ask yourself this...
While you are supporting everyone else with your business, who is supporting you in your business?
