Why You Must Ask This Question Before You Hit Publish
You’ve researched keywords and crafted an awesome headline for your online post.
And you’re feeling pretty pleased with yourself!
Because in between running your business, pitching and following up leads, you’re creating content.
And while your content may be awesome, before you hit publish, you need to do one more thing.
Go back to the post and as you read ask this question...
...“will this connect with my audience?"
Creating content that truly connects with your target audience isn’t easy, so here are 3 things to help you out.
1 Imagine one of your ideal client’s reading your words.
Where would they be as they’re reading:
- at their desk?
- on public transport?
- standing outside the school gates waiting for their kids?
- waiting in a cafe for a meeting to start?
- on the couch at night as they’re semi-watching TV?
Picturing this will help you create meaningful content that speaks directly to your ideal client.
2 Does the post connect with one of your ideal client’s fears, beliefs and desires?
If your content’s not addressing the WIIFT (what’s in it for them) criteria, it won’t be read.
Which apart from not feeling good, means that you’ve wasted precious energy and time on writing something that’s not doing the job you wanted it to do.
3 Have a look at the types of posts you regularly read.
As you’re looking through these, you need to dig a bit deeper than, “I like that post because I learned about XYZ from expert ABC."
Because it’s in the digging that you’ll discover what the deeper connection to the post really is.
- Is it the way the author’s sharing their knowledge?
- Does the tone of voice make you feel like this person knows exactly what you need to read?
Taking the extra time to craft your posts is an investment in your brand, profile and online presence.
Because your words have the power to connect with, change and create a difference to a lot of people.
