THIS IS WHY YOU MUST APPRECIATE BEING SLOW
Why is being slow a big NO-NO in the busy world?
Why do people consider hustle – bustle at work as the only sign of productivity?
Why is being slow always discouraged?
Why is being slow considered a sign of low intelligence?
Why do we feel embarrassed if somebody compares you with snail or slog?
I have been struggling to answer these questions from a long time.
Being a 90s kid from a conservative family, with no relation to the digital world, imagining the world through books was the only option. I use to go the local bablu bhaiya’s shop with baba to get my favorite Panchatantra books. Since then, me and Panchatantra share a never-ending bond. The powerful parable of the hare and the tortoise, which emphasizes the proverb " ‘Slow and Steady wins the race’, still comes to me whenever I hear the term "slow.
But why has the charisma of this idiom faded away? Why do we equate slowness with being lazy and stupid? Why is it bad to take things slowly?
Let me make it very clear it’s absolutely?OK?being slow. Slow doesn’t always equal to stupid and fast doesn’t always equal to smart. Being slow implies that you are the master of your own tempo. You determine the speed of your work. You take your own time in absorbing the essence of your assigned project and presenting your work flawlessly. Your nomenclature at workplace is just based on the perspective of other people who consider you either sluggish or swift. They fail to understand that wise take things slowly as slow people enjoy the process.
Well, I am not completely against the speed of the fast-moving world. It’s because of speed that our lives are easier with all the new technologies and developments. The only thing that is hampering us is our growing obsession with speed and negligence of the value and charm of slowness. We must never forget who won the race between the hare and the tortoise.
In order to prove my point, let me give you a simple example of an Exam Hall. We all have faced the situation where our friend swiftly completes the entire paper and walks out of the hall with a happy face. Contrastingly, you are drenched in sweat and busy in writing paper in one hand whereas in the other hand you are still thinking how could your friend complete it real fast. But when you compare the result, you have scored much well as compared to your friend. So, swiftness doesn’t always guarantee smartness and sluggishness doesn’t always reflect dumbness.
As Mahatma Gandhi said?‘There’s more to life than increasing the speed”;?So, my dear readers, stop blaming yourself if you are slow and let’s take a look at the rare qualities of slow people.
