Why you might want to pass on that promotion (yes, you read that right)
Being offered a promotion is a tremendous feeling—it signals that your hard work on the job has been recognized. You have made an impact at your company, earned increased responsibilities and a (hopefully) significant pay raise.
But before you make the instinctual decision to accept your new role, pause to think about whether the promotion is the right move for you right now.
“The path of career advancement is not universally linear, nor is it suited to everyone’s aspirations and circumstances,” writes contributor Benjamin Laker in his recent story for Forbes. So while you might think that rejecting a promotion shows a lack of ambition, in reality it could be the right decision for a person’s mental health or overall career path.?

Work policy: Bernie Sanders pushes for 32-hour workweek
The push for a four-day workweek in the U.S. got a boost of support recently, as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) introduced the Senate companion bill to Rep. Mark Takano’s (D-Calif.) Thirty-Two Hour Workweek Act, which would reduce the standard workweek in the Labor Standards Act from 40 hours and lower the maximum hours threshold for overtime pay.
“We were talking about a 40-hour workweek 80 years ago, and that’s what people today, despite the explosion of technology, are working,” Sanders said. “The sad reality is that Americans now work more hours than the people of any other wealthy nation.”

Practical advice: How businesses could prepare for a possible TikTok ban in the U.S.
With the House of Representatives recently passing a bill that would require TikTok parent company ByteDance to sell the social platform or face a ban in the U.S., companies that use TikTok as part of their marketing strategy are likely already considering what to do if a ban were to occur, writes senior contributor Edward Segal.
“The simple answer is to adapt,” says Paige Borgman, head of digital strategy at Reputation Partners. “While a national ban on TikTok would surely be impactful for brands and businesses who are successfully leveraging the platform, it would ultimately be just another change in the always evolving digital landscape.”
And while the ban is in no way guaranteed—it still faces a possible vote in the Senate—marketing teams should consider strategies on alternate platforms and use this legislation as a wake up call to make changes to their processes.
