That is Why You Have Your Own Pit Crew – in Honor of Shawn Butler

I am going to ask for your forgiveness upfront because I am writing from the heart and the heart does not have grammar or spellcheck. My fingers are merely translating what my heart, mind and spirit are feeling as I write this.

This morning, I attended a meeting online with a great group of people from around the country in Service Drive Live.? Typically, we talk about Fixed Operations in the automotive industry, but today was different.? We came together to remember a man that brought more than knowledge to the group he brought his authentic self.? He is now gone and we pray for his family and legacy.? Shawn Butler will truly be missed.

During that call, I raised a call to action to all that were there.? Go to the Doctor!? One Doctors appointment may save your life and allow you to continue to be a blessing to all that are connected to you.? Yet, many of us in the Automotive Space do not make time to do this.? We tell ourselves lies like:? I don’t have the time. I’m fine there is nothing wrong with me. Whatever is bothering me will go away.? Stop lying to yourself. Regardless of what you are feeling either mental or physical, you need your Pit Crew. ?Yes, you have your own Pit Crew just like professional drives.

Every month you pay for this Pit Crew, it is made up of Doctors, Nurses, Therapists and other Mental and Physical professionals.? Yet, you ignore them as you race around the track of life at 200 mph.? There is a reason you have this crew.? They are not there just in case something goes wrong, you blow a tire or a piece of your engine falls off, they are there to make sure you can run the best race that you can, in the best shape possible.

Mind you, I am not saying that Mr. Butler did not do this.? I am not saying that he ignored his Pit Crew, yet so many of us do.? I believe Shawn’s legacy is one that will resonate with those who knew him and knew of him.? I believe his legacy will be one of Love.? He Loved his Family, Friends and the people he worked with and led.? His story was indeed jaw-dropping if you ever had the privilege of hearing it.? He has inspired many and will continue to do such even though he is no longer on this plane of existence.

So, this short note to you is a stark reminder to not ignore your Pit Crew.? We all have things happening in our lives, “Life is Life’ing” and it never stops, but we must make a pit stop or two along the way.? Don’t wait until your check engine light comes on or your check oil life monitor hits 0%. Don’t wait until you can’t see straight or the voices get louder.? Make a Preventative Measure Pit Stop in your life. That few moments out of your life may be the moments you need to run this race a little while longer.

This tale I am sharing is from my own experiences in life as well. ??Earlier in my life, I wouldn’t go to the Doctors unless something was direly wrong with me or I was pushed by family and friends.? As I am older now, I make regular Pit Stops.? One day I will run my last lap of my race, that is inevitable.? Yet, with the help of my Pit Crew I can run those laps in better mental and physical shape, I owe that to all that I love and to the ones that love me.

Take Your Ass to the Doctor, get yourself check out and stop being selfish.? The job will be there when you get back, no one will look at you as if you are weak and last but not least the world needs you to be around for as long as you can be and then some.

Again, this is in honor of a great man that shared a lot of him with the rest of the world, Shawn Butler.? We thank his family for sharing him with us for as long as he was able and into the future.
