Why You Get Rejected From Jobs You Seem Qualified For

Why You Get Rejected From Jobs You Seem Qualified For

Another rejection email from a job you were perfectly qualified for? Why does this keep happening?

We guess this is a question many of us may have faced at one point or another.

Well getting?rejected?from jobs that we feel well-qualified for is certainly frustrating, and unfortunately not that uncommon.?

So we thought we would give candidates a peek behind the curtain and ask some of our expert recruiters about the reasons candidates get rejected, even though they may appear to be a perfect fit.

Here are 4 of the more common reasons they mentioned:

1.???A Mismatch Unrelated to Your Qualifications

Even though your CV could be a perfect match for the job profile, sometimes factors like a salary mismatch (if you mentioned a range), proficiency in a vital software that the company uses, or other factors may take you out of the running.

2.???Your Application is Not Optimized for ATS

Currently, many employers are using Applicant Tracking Software (ATS)?to screen applications, and flag those that they deem fit for the role. If your application does not contain the required keywords, job titles or years of experience, you could be filtered out by the software, before a human sees it.

If you want to make sure this doesn’t happen, you can check out our previous article here for some tips on how to get your CV noticed here.

3.?????You Are Not Actually As Qualified as You Believe.

Maybe the Dunning-Kruger effect has made you believe that you are actually more qualified than is actually the case. So sometimes its important to step back and critically evaluate whether the level of strengths and competencies you mentioned in our CV are actually in line?with the overall industry standard.

4. Conditions Beyond Your Control

Sometimes there are factors, such as a culture misfit, internal employees being considered, or the job requirements changing at the last minute that could have nothing to do with your qualifications on paper.

On certain occasions, it may even come down to a personality fit. Certain personality traits may just be a better fit with the hiring manager in question. At one time, that may work in your favor, and at others, not so much.

Conclusion?

So in conclusion, the takeaway from this should be that, while there are some factors that are out of your control, make sure you focus on the ones that are.

Keep your CV updated, format for ATS, brush up on your interview skills, and make sure you do your research on the companies you apply to.

And always keep in mind, as the famous saying goes, failures are the stepping-stones to success, and once you hop over a few, you will definitely land that dream job you seek.

Do you have any other factors that you may have experienced in the past to add to this list? Recruiters, is there any other measures candidates can take to ensure they hit the mark?

comments suggest users are FAR too trusting of tiny company/organisational BIAS. its no accident that recruitment software is (now) a replacement for gatekeepers–who are always biased based on race, sex and just plain economics! Its a fit-up, no matter how u slice it. Better to start ur own biz and sub-contract, create ur own sustainable eco-system. Or diiiieeeeee! ?? ?? JK on that part (hehe)

Article was missing a crucial part. Recruiters and employers these days do not take the initiative of providing feedback or even following up after interviews, however, in my case they disappear of the face of the earth and your left trying to find a human response on the other side.

Since i moved to Memphis Tennessee last January I have been getting rejected by every job company. They have the wrong people controlling the hiring process. Why would these companies deny me with 10+ years of warehouse experience and pallet jacks, pick and pack, sales associate, stocking. There isnt one job that gave me a chance and im from a different state. Memphis Tennessee isn’t a good place to live they will not give you a job. Even when the job says no experience needed I can’t even get an interview. Memphis Tennessee needs more white people back into these hiring positions. These blacks are very disrespectful and would lie in a quickness so you can not work.

Interestingly saying some of the most important words from the recruiter's context. Kudos to the writer.
