Why write as technical person?

Probably you have heard how AI Text Generation tools like chatGPT took the world by surprise for its great improvisation capabilities, to the point that people believes it can revolutionize the work environments. Probably you also know how error-prone its output really is, because it doesn't have a specific knowledge, it just knows how to compose one word after the other, which does remarkable well.

I also guess you have also seen (or read maybe?) in recent years lots of short style videos in networks like TikTok about how easy it is nowadays to "write software", just copy and paste the first search result from Stack Overflow or whatever output either Copilot or chatGPT gives you. Done!. Just sarcasm, You and I know it is not that simple, and also that unfortunately we are not these videos targeting audience.

And, if you are a technical person like me, to whom write is not an easy task; you probably spend more than 20 minutes to compose a simple 5 lines email answer.

My thesis today is for the 3 statements aforementioned.

Internet is not a nice place in general and many websites offer information that is not always true, sometimes evil, others completely false, simply fake news. And many well-done research and articles are hidden behind a pay wall.

AI uses the information it can gather from all the different websites in the world, applies the transformer and generates a model which output resembles what a normal person would do. That is fascinating and a bit scary at the same time. And even though, it has people behind tuning the output, achieving a 100% unbiased system can't simply be done.

I believe, it is then the duty of the people with knowledge to help balance the amount of falsely articles with at least few correct enough ones. That, with the goal to improve the feedback cycle and the correctness of the machine's output. Which is, at the same time, quite an apocalyptic thought.

To the next point, I could be disregarded; it is first, a generational issue, secondly it is a different media format, the best text is already there, present in the form of documentation, the source code (and samples) from the libraries; I have also seen good quality content for more advanced topics.

However, to publish more advance topics is well received, as well as content that helps bridge the gap for people in different levels who are interested in moving their carrier forward and who really want to learn how the craft works, or just compare different point of views.

Anyway, a nice way to create a good video or audio content is having a good script.

To the third and last point, making good text is an art that comes with practice.

It requires having the ability to gather lots of knowledge, assumptions and condense them in a concrete message that highlights the key points of it.

So I believe that to have a space, to practice, and maybe get feedback from it; is something good. It would be nice to share it to the world, but it can also be stored in a personal vault, or just deleted.

A last argument, for me, is that it allows the writer, to be able to look back and see how one's thoughts and experiences change over time.

Offscript note. Doing video could be more rewarding.

1) It can reach more audiences compared as text.

2) I find myself jumping into different kinds of video: static or streaming, even for learning.
