Why "write every day" is terrible advice...

Why "write every day" is terrible advice...

So there’s this common trope in the copywriting, and marketing industry…??

And, I’m sure you’ve likely heard it since literally everyone on LinkedIn thinks they’re a copywriting expert.??

… which is that you should write every day.??

Now, I’m not going to say that the idea behind it is terrible…??

Because, in all reality, it’s based on sound principles.??

But, here’s the problem with it:??If you sit down and write every day, hit publish, and don’t get the results you’re looking for…??

How are you even going to know what’s going on, even if you have a ton of data???

You won’t!??

The issue is (and I see this all the time), is that although the copy is well written…??

And seems to flow well…??

There are some missing elements in it that would really make it sing and get these people the results they’re actually looking for.??

That’s because:??

They’ve not “learned” the principles of real direct response copywriting, and keep making the same mistakes over and over.??

Think about it!??Would you expect Michael Jordan to have played at the high level he did…??

If he didn’t practice the fundamentals every day first???

Of course not!??

And if I remember correctly, he wasn’t even picked to be on his school team at first.??

… but what he did was stay up till almost midnight every night for as long as he could get away with it…??

So he could keep practicing until he got good enough to make the team.??

Look at where that got him now.??

And, this is what most people get wrong with the write every day advice…??

Is they don’t practice the fundamentals of great copywriting that actually gets results.??

… they either write, and publish every day.??

… or even worse, use AI to do the majority of the writing for them, and never improve their writing.

... or their thinking.??

Because the reality is:??

Great writing is great thinking, and if you “need” assistance with that…??

You’re stealing from your future self’s intellect.??

Either way…??

This is why I decided to hold a little 5-day writing challenge.??

And anyone can join.

Here’s how it’ll work:??

I’ll send you an email for the challenge every day with a short lesson explaining what to look for in the ad.??

I’ll explain the different parts, and how they flow together…??

So you can see great copy in action, and how it works…??

Then if you have time, and decide to, you can hand copy the section that day's lesson is on.??

That way you can imprint the A-List quality copy in your memory for good…??

And in time, you'll start to even emulate it yourself without having to stop to think about it.??

So, if you’re into that…??

Then simply go to my featured section, and click on The Command Attention in The Inbox Toolkit...

So you can claim your free exclusive copy of my best, top-performing email subject line formulas and digital handbook behind the psychology behind great subject line writing...

Then reply to the welcome email, "Copy 101", and I'll set you up with the challenge for free.

And, yes, I already know that's a lot of instructions to follow...

And that's by design.

... I only want high-IQ people on my email list.

So if that's you...

I'll see you in the inbox :)

Till next week…??

From my igloo in Canada,???

The 'write every day' mantra is great, but without mastering the fundamentals, it's like building a house on sand. This challenge sounds like a solid foundation.

Peter it's unsustainable and doesn't give you the opportunity to focus on the principles that come with it on a consistent-enough basis. The MJ analogy really puts it into perspective!
