Why Write?
Why? Why do you write? This is an imperative question to answer for a writer. When the answer is clear, no matter what is going on in life, the purpose of your writing will not change.
One of my life’s goals is to write sixty books by the time I am sixty-five. Why? Do I desire to be on the New York Times Bestsellers List? Do I want someone to pick up one of my books for the big screen? Do I want fame and popularity? All of these can be a reason as to why writers write.
For me, writing is a calling. It is something I must do like breathing. From my writing I desire two things. The first one is to make an impact, a difference in the lives of my readers. The second, I desire to leave a legacy for my lineage. I want them to use what I have done as the foundation to catapult their creative lives.
Knowing your why will assist to keep you focused when life happens. If the dinner is accidently burned, you can fix something else to eat and still write. If you missed your vacation flight, you can reschedule and still write.
Sometimes, serious things can happen in life where you feel the wind is knocked out of your body. When you slowly began to breathe again…you can still write.
