Why "work - life balance" is becoming a broken promise, and how to bring it back to the forefront.
A quick 3 minute read.
The business world is a drastically different place these days compared to the way that it looked and felt 3 years ago.(nearly to the day)
Everyone is talking about work-life balance, about WFH(wfh) and about the gig economy.
There is constant discussion about new benefits packages, and ways to sweeten the deal for employees in order to stay ahead of the dreaded labour shortage.
The interesting piece of this conversation though is that typically the conversation is only really discussing one side of the coin.
How to improve the life of employees.
And how it pertains to retention.
Or listen to Adam Lamb and I discuss it on Turning the Table Podcast every week.
-> Wellness spending accounts.
-> Unlimited vacation policies.
-> Signing bonuses.
-> Even at home cleaning and laundry services are being provided.
In an effort to improve the lifestyle of those who work for today's organizations.
Now here is the piece that I believe is missing from the discussion.
What happens if someone's lifestyle is great, their benefits are unmatched, and they have unlimited vacation to do as they please.
But every time they return to work, from their home or their vacation, they are immediately stressed out, anxious, and on the verge of burnout.
This is a place where too many companies and people operate.
Especially in the restaurant industry.
Now along comes workload management.
Similar to the pro sport leagues and their "load management" strategies.

A way for us to determine how hard your team has to work, in order to accomplish the goals of the business.
A way to determine the threshold that exists between smooth or chaotic operations.
A way to prevent undue stress on employees and limit burnout before they experience it.
And a way to improve retention, from a work perspective.
Because all of the perks in the world don't matter, if your team is immediately stressed upon returning to work.
You would be amazed how simple this is, and how powerful it can be alongside a strong benefits and wage package.
Email me at [email protected] and I'm happy to walk you through it for free.
If there is one thing I would do differently from my days in operations, this would be it. Hands down.
But I would also engage with companies like NOTCH ORDERING that make some of these new challenges so much easier to work through. Literally saving chefs and managers hours a week.
They are definitely making the lives of management and chefs easier every single day.
Do you remember the days of spending entire workdays on inventory and invoicing? Ya, they get rid of that for you.
Until next week.
