Why won’t Google re-index my page?

I think the right question to ask is why won’t Google re-crawl my page.

We will get to that in a second.

We need to first define what Indexing and crawling are. You will see that Why won’t Google re-index my page is not the question you should be asking

Crawling and Indexing

Let’s take the example of a librarian. A librarian is tasked with adding books with the title ‘mechanical engineering’ in them.

He/She will contact the supplier and ask for books related to mechanical engineering to add to her library.

The supplier will provide her with books that are related to or contain mechanical engineering in the titles.

Now, the librarian will add these books to her library and label them correctly so that students can get these books easily.

The act of storing these books is called?indexing?(in layman’s terms). The act of supplier looking for books titled ‘mechanical engineering’ is called?crawling.

Now, let’s get back to the point.

There is no such thing as re-indexing. Once a librarian has added the book to the library, she can’t take out the book by itself.

You can’t re-index a page that has already been indexed.

The correct thing to say is your page isn’t been re-crawled.

Why isn’t it being recrawled?

A couple of reasons:

• Check whether you (or someone else) successfully requested that the site or URL be removed from the index. Open the?URL removal tool?to look for?approved?requests for URL or site removal. If so, you can revoke the request.
• The page is lying deep on the website. By deep I mean more than three clicks from the homepage.
• You have applied the noindex,nofollow directive on the page or blocking through robots.txt
• Check-in search console if the page is giving discovered but not crawled error.
• Check-in search console if the page is giving crawled but not indexed error.
• Check and see if any manual actions are applied
• Check your page using the?URL inspection tool?and make the required changes
