Why We Need More Female Entrepreneurs

I am the founder Spontime, an app that brings people together in real life, spontaneously. I created Spontime because I want to help other young adults meet new people and enjoy more time together. However, as a young female entrepreneur, I knew that getting the app rolling was not going to be an easy task. Sometimes, people don’t take women seriously in the business world, and therefore, women must work twice as hard to achieve their entrepreneurial goals. There are plenty of reasons, however, why women make great entrepreneurs and here is why we need more female founders:

1.    Women Give a Different Perspective

Many people often underestimate women. Women can give businesses a new opinion that will ultimately help the company prosper. Women are usually more sensitive and less impulsive than men. They think things through and walk around in someone else’s shoes before making judgment. Women can help the company be more relatable and sensitive to the clients’ needs.

2.    Women are More Ambitious Than Men

Often, women are more ambitious than men. Women know that they must work hard to get what they want in a career, so they are willing to go after it with full force. Women aren’t afraid of overcoming challenges, especially when it comes to starting a new business. A study showed that 47% of female entrepreneurs that already had their own businesses expressed a desire to start another new business within 3 years. However, only 18% of men reported that they would be interested in starting another business.

3.    Women Want to Help Others

Many women create new businesses based on their passions and for the benefit of others. I created Spontime in order to help millennials spend less time online, and more time in the real world with friends or new people. Also, women want to help each other succeed. According to Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, a woman’s secret to quickly boosting her career is by celebrating and supporting other women. Help each other out to accomplish your career goals!

4.    Women aren’t as Overconfident as Men

Women tend to be less overconfident than men. According to Forbes, a study showed that only 42% of female business owners claimed that their company was thriving. In contrast, the same study saw that 62% of men expressed that their companies were prospering. The study concluded that while the men believed to be succeeding, the female entrepreneurs, though less overconfident, were actually prospering more than the men.

5.    Close the Gender Gap

Finally, one of the biggest reasons why we need more female entrepreneurs is to close the gender gap! Women can be just as talented and successful as men, so they deserve to be celebrated for that! Women need to hold positions of power in order to assert their endeavors and to seal the gap in income between women and men.
