Why We Ride: The Thrills and Kills of Bike Riding

Riding is something most people don’t have to do, but rather feel compelled to—for a wide variety of reasons ranging from passion to practicality.

1)    To capture the thrill of riding

The thrill of being at one with a two-wheeled machine that weighs only a few hundred kilograms is one of the purest ways to move, and the risks involve sometimes even heighten that enjoyment.

Perhaps Robert Pirsig said it best in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: "You’re completely in contact with it all. You’re in the scene, not just watching it anymore, and the sense of presence is overwhelming.”

2)   A feeling of being a part of something

Motorcyclists often feel like they belong to a big community, and that feeling gives us something in common; we share a bond that sets us apart from the rest of the motoring world.

"Because really, the only thing that makes sense is to strive for greater collective enlightenment." -Elon Musk, Tesla Motors, CEO

3)   Sense of Individuality

In spite of the fact that motorcyclists are a part of a big club, they also tend to be more individualistic than the next person. Whether that's revealed through their personal style or the way we trick out their bikes, motorcycling can be an outlet through which they can unveil their personalities.

4)   Bikes are cool, this can’t be denied

There's something about motorcyclists, isn't there? When a guy or a gal walks into a restaurant with a helmet under arm, they constantly emit a swagger and a sense of cool that just isn't the same as rolling up in a car.

5)   Escape and adventure

What better way to escape than on a motorcycle? The sense of freedom feels complete on two wheels, and riding doesn't transport you to a destination; it is the destination.

6)   Mind Boggling Performance with less weight on pocket

This point is bittersweet; though it's equalizing that a person riding a $13,000 Hayabusa can keep step with a million dollar Ferrari, it can also be enormously risky. So while motorcycles are performance deals that offer more performance per dollar than virtually any other vehicle, it's best to explore these boundaries on a track.

7)   Comfort of commuting

Not only are motorcycles allowed in most High Occupancy Vehicle lanes, Sometimes they’re allowed to ride between lanes. Chances are that a bike will get you to work sooner, and you’ll also arrive more refreshed than you would have in a car.

8)   Little Concern for Mother Nature

We know you ride just for the thrill of it, there's nothing wrong with being a little concerned for Mother Nature once in a while. Motorcycles are efficient forms of transportation that impact the environmental minimally by reducing your carbon footprints.

9)   Accessible and convenient parking

Laugh in the face of bulky 4 wheelers forced to squeeze into tiny parking spots! Because most places of business have designated motorcycle parking, running duties on a bike are eminently easier than driving—and many parking lots allow bikes in for free.
