What does Preimage do?
In One line : ?You can upload your aerial datasets and generate high-quality outputs (digital twins) at unprecedented processing speeds!
- Preimage solves the existing problem of time-consuming & expensive processes of 3D reconstruction, due to massive computational capacity requirements and manual interventions.?
- Preimage tackles this problem by using technological advances to create a cloud service that processes data without any intervention & creates outputs that need minimal intervention. These are possible due to -
- Full-scale automation: Due to automation, users are able to receive high-quality & accurate output which requires very less to no post-processing needs.
- Cloud native designs: This provides a rapid scale & speeds up the process with minimal processing oversight via Infra optimized softwares.
General purpose API’s: The main objective of general purpose APIs has been to build enormous cross-compatibility & customised 3D apps which eventually result in lower time to the market.?
Brains behind Preimage?
- Ugam Kamat: Ugam is a B.Tech graduate in Metallurgical Engineering & Materials Science from IIT Bombay. Ugam was part of the software equity research team at JP Morgan and his experience there of analyzing 70+ public and private SAAS companies in the United States has given him a deep insight into the Go-to-market strategies, technical positioning, and unit economics of SAAS firms.
- Siddharth Jha: Siddharth is a B.Tech & M.Tech graduate in Electrical & Control Systems Engineering from IIT Bombay. Siddharth has a deep understanding of end-to-end software stacks for multi-sensor mapping, LiDAR SLAM, and visual localization. He has been working along with Ugam as a Co-Founder at Preimage for the past 2.5 years.
Why does Photogrammetry matter??
- Photogrammetry is a way of making 3D models from many pictures of the real world. These models can be used for different purposes like measuring, checking or testing things.
- Most software that makes these models use complex math that takes a long time to run. This makes it hard and expensive for people or businesses to use these models quickly and easily.
- Limitations of existing photogrammetry software tools:
- Manual post processing takes a lot of time and effort. The models made by existing software are not good enough. Experts have to fix them a lot.
- On-Premises deployment is not flexible. Most of the software that makes these models have to be installed on the user’s computer, which is very expensive. This makes it hard to handle many data sets at once, and sometimes the computer can crash because it needs more power. Some software can run on the cloud, but they are not as customizable as the ones on the computer.
- Slow processing speed makes it hard to act fast. When working on big projects, there is a lot of data to make good maps and models. The processing with current software can take more than a day. This makes it hard to decide what to do next and costs more money.
?? Drone photogrammetry is very popular these days. New technology like AI, cloud, hardware, and fast internet can make the process of making 3D models much better.
Preimage is one of the several companies trying to modernize the photogrammetry industry by combining the best technologies and steering the industry towards a cloud-native, AI-driven, and highly scalable future. By believing that a better, faster, and more economical solution will unlock opportunities and can cater to new use cases emerging in gaming, AR/VR, and 3D content creation.
Why now?
- The drone photogrammetry is valued at $2.2 Bn in 2022 and is expected to reach $8.5 Bn by 2030, registering a CAGR of close to 18%.
- Today corporations around the globe & across sectors are heavily dependent on drone-based mapping and inspection for the creation of terrain maps, monitoring of assets, measuring stockpiles as well as creating digital twins. Accurate outputs from photogrammetry enable informed decision-making and thus have strong business implications.
Summary
Preimage is well poised to emerge as a go-to solution that delivers superior output without compromising accuracy at a higher speed than incumbents. As the fields of AI and ML continue to advance, the sector will experience a significant growth, owing to faster, quality output with minimal error and manual intervention.
