Why We Invested in Jam: Empowering Engineering Teams to Ship Bug-free Software

Engineers, designers, and product managers have all felt the frustration of trying—and failing—to reproduce a bug. Enter Jam’s free browser-based app, which captures essentials like console logs, network requests, browser info, device details, and more via a single screenshot or screen recording. Jam’s one-click solution also makes it easier to report bugs in the first place, a relief for non-technical users who no longer have to hear responses like: “Well, it works on my computer!”

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that GGV Capital U.S. is leading Jam’s $8.9 million Series A with participation from Figma Ventures, existing investors Union Square Ventures, BoxGroup, Version One Ventures, and Village Global, plus angel investors like Vercel* CEO Guillermo Rauch. Since investing in Jam in 2020 when it was still in private beta with a 4,500-person waitlist, we’ve been impressed by the team’s progress in revolutionizing the way that engineers, designers, and product managers collaborate on product development. Fueled by product-led growth, Jam now has 75,000 users and customers like Autodesk, Deel, Dell, Salesforce, SeatGeek, Toast, Unilever, Under Armour, and more.

Led by CEO Dani Grant and Co-founder Mohd Irtefa, Jam’s remote-first team includes many Cloudflare alums who have reunited to create the tool they could only dream about back then. Dani herself started out as a product manager in 2015 when Cloudflare was under 150 employees. As the company’s fourth PM, she was paired with another PM, Irtefa, to work with 30 engineers on launching new products for Cloudflare such as the 1.1.1.1 app that offers a more secure way to access the internet—today, that app powers 1 trillion secure connections every day.

After leaving the now-$27 billion company for a two-year stint as an analyst at Union Square Ventures, Dani teamed up again with Irtefa to build Jam. The collaboration tool now integrates seamlessly with Asana, Figma, GitHub, Jira, Loom, Slack, and other software to reduce the context switching that the co-founders both endured as PMs.?

Reuniting at a co-working space in 2021

When former Robinhood VP, Product and current Apple product management executive Josh Elman first introduced us to Dani and Irtefa in April 2020, we were struck by their vision, grit, and growth mindset. Over the past few years, we’ve also proudly watched Dani grow as a founder and leader who openly shares her entrepreneurial journey on social media, including why she believes the advice to “move fast and break things” is outdated for startups.

? In this April 2023 episode of “Founder Real Talk” featuring GGV Capital U.S. Managing Partners Glenn Solomon and Hans Tung, listen to Dani reflect on finding product-market fit, why retention is the metric she cares about the most, and more:

The AI-driven road ahead

After crossing 1 million debuggable bug reports (or Jams) in Dec. 2023, Jam is expanding its user base to help artificial intelligence teams ship better and faster. For engineering teams that are building tools with AI, their product keeps changing as they update prompts. Without versioning for prompts, teams can turn to Jam for that “instant replay” and critical tracking. The results are clear—a generative AI product manager says Jam helps fix bugs 2-5x faster!

We see a bright future for Jam as it helps more teams collaborate and ship bug-free software. As Dani told us in our podcast conversation, Jam’s “user base is all people who are builders. They're trying to improve the world in some way. Jam is a tool to help them do that faster—and that is an honor.”
