Why we grinding after heat treatment?
When I entering the mold industry, I start with taking progress pictures to learn about the mold manufacture process. Then I become the Miss "Why" to my production colleagues.
Such as, why we grinding after heat treatment?
"Because they are ugly after heat treatment. See? More beautiful after grinding."
Obviously, this answer will make me keep ask why.:)
Then I get a more serious answer:
Because the steel will get slight deformed during heat treatment, grinding can help fix the warping, guarantee the steel precision before go to fine CNC machining and EDM machining.
Also, grinding can remove the oxide layer of heat treatment, make the steel surface more smooth and shining.
... ...
Through this kind of ask questions and answer, in stead of just do as been told to, we get deeper understanding about what we do, a dull work become more interesting. :)
