We had a fantastic time today at Llandow Circuit courtesy of the wonderful people of Speed of Sight. This is a charity that provides driving experiences for people with disabilities. Those of you that know Zack will no doubt be aware of how much he loves cars and racing, and the event today gave him a chance to put pedal to the metal! In a buggy! On a racetrack!
In his own words, it was “totally awesome”. His instructor Craig (a stunt driver in Mission Impossible no less!) made him feel totally at ease and was impressed to say the least by the little control he had to take as they sped around the circuit.
It was wonderful to see not only Zack’s face, but also the reactions of the other drivers following their own session. The feelings of joy, independence and self-achievement on display made us realise that such a simple idea as this can have a life-changing impact for people.
It also needs to be said that the staff of Speed of Sight were all wonderful people who did everything they could to make this a great day for all the drivers. Everyone there was incredibly friendly and courteous - giving up their time to travel so far and work so hard (they were there at 7am to change the track layout so that the recycling site fire you can see in the background of some of our pics did not postpone the whole event!) speaks volumes about how special they are. A huge thank you to everyone!
And, if you have a spare moment and possibly a spare pound too, why not pop over to https://www.speedofsight.org/ and help support this great charity? With your help, more disabled people across the UK could get the chance that Zack had today to make some wonderful memories. And isn’t that what life is about?
