The quest till now by humans to create an AI (artificial intelligence) that is aware i.e. self learning has not entirely ended up in sucess. But what do you need an aware AI for? The end answer to me seems immortality. The transfer of one's conciousness in a piece of container that can never erode. Only an AI can do the maths required to create that process of transfer.
But this is where it gets really really interesting. A human life is built around 'purpose'. We come into this world and we start to live all of its moments...happiness, sadness, anger, success, achievements and disappointments because in the back of our mind we all know the end of all of it, death. The fear of death gives our life a purpose. You take away this fear and you suddenly realize that you now have to do absolutely nothing. This limitless time has no meaning and... no purpose. This is where the reverse process begins and now this immortal self aware container wants a purpose in life which one can only attain by being human.
So did we had this answer infront of us the whole time? Did we end up as humans because the evolution knew the answers billions of years back of this question that we started to ask a few decades ago? Seems like we are in a loop.
