Lessons from Experience: Avoiding Past Mistakes in Tech-First Thinking
Reflecting on our journey, we once made the mistake of putting technology first. When we ran a B2B wholesale marketplace, we invested over 10 million Naira and poured three years of effort into developing the technology before we fully understood what our customers needed from the platform.
By prioritizing the tech, we found ourselves constantly adjusting to try and align with the market—essentially playing catch-up. This mistake was costly both financially and personally and can easily drain the resources of a business or keep an entrepreneur in the hospital with free stress.
This experience taught us a valuable lesson: If you don’t start with the customer’s experience, you’ll end up struggling to make your technology fit their needs later.
And that’s not a mistake we are willing to repeat.
