Why we avoid pain

?

People will do whatever it takes to AVOID PAIN.

When you ASSOCIATE PAIN with FAILURE, you will do whatever is necessary to AVOID IT. You have heard of ‘’Fight or Flight’’ Flight is a natural reaction, human nature.

?I have been able to associate PAIN with GROWTH but also teach you how to change your mindset.

Each time we LOSE, and we feel the PAIN, we GROW. We all have an opportunity to change our mindsets to a growth way of thinking.

?When we IGNORE the PAIN of LOSS, we have failed because we have missed a chance to learn, an opportunity to grow. An opportunity to build a Grit mindset.


Here are 4 Philosophies I use to develop a GRIT mindset.

  • ?A Personal Coping Mantra:?help clients understand the link between negative thoughts and feelings and replace unhelpful negative thoughts with helpful coping thoughts.
  • Adopting a Growth Mindset to Criticism:?help clients adopt a growth mindset in the context of receiving criticism.
  • Costs and Benefits of Unhelpful Behavior:?assess why the client persists in problematic behaviors and/or thinking patterns.
  • Extracting Strengths from Problems:?help clients extract a strength from a current personal problem and learn to view problems from a positive, strengths-perspective.?
