Why waste is not just an opportunity, but a solution for global challenges
When we dispose of our materials, we are discarding an invaluable resource. Our waste isn’t waste, but a solution for value creation and alternative energies.
This is the brainchild behind the concept of “Waste to Plus”, representing the abundance of opportunity at our fingertips if we harness our material the right way. Ts. Dr. Sivapalan Kathiravale , our Head of Research & Development, focused on this during a session at the ISWA World Congress, a global platform for knowledge exchange on sustainable solid waste management.
Dr. Kathiravale underscored our commitment to research and development (R&D) positioning us at the forefront of groundbreaking technologies such as advanced bio-methanol production from waste and innovative biodiesel production techniques. These advancements align with global sustainability goals by promoting circular economy principles, showcasing the value of Waste to Plus opportunities.
These factors combined are the perfect ingredients to promote resource efficiency and environmental sustainability, advancing our sector and contributing to solutions for climate change challenges. Dr. Kathiravale highlighted the urgency of this and how, with the support of stakeholders and partners, we can progress waste conversion projects including transforming into energy, as well as graphene, hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel, and much more. Each of these contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to achieving national net zero targets.
By investing in cutting-edge technologies, we are able to lower greenhouse gas emissions while creating new revenue streams for our businesses across the sustainability sector. Platforms such as the ISWA World Congress provide an opportunity for knowledge exchange, to showcase how we can effectively turn challenges into sustainable opportunities, ensuring a brighter, cleaner future for generations to come.
