Why Warwickshire
Lock down has got me focusing on home and trying to get my head around the lock down/quarantine/ social isolation rules. Now I am engaging my imagination and thinking about our beautiful country and all the possible 'staycation' location and I have come across the West Midlands and Warwickshire in particular.
I am going to start with a bit of culture… Every visit to Stratford would not be complete without finding out more about the English poet and playwright that makes it famous. Shakespeare's Birthplace allows you to visit the house where the world’s most famous playwright was born and grew up to discover more about his early years.
Other must see Shakespeare locations include Hall's Croft (home to William's daughter), Shakespeare's New Place (the last chapter in his life), Anne Hathaway's cottage (a romantic setting) and Mary Arden's Farm (the childhood home of Shakespeare's mother)
I do like to take myself for a walk. The Heart of England Forest is just the place for that, located principally in South Warwickshire with some woodland in Worcestershire. The forest stretches from the Forest of Arden south to the edge of the Vale of Evesham.
The Heart of England Forest is a charity committed to helping reverse centuries of woodland decline in England. Let’s not forget Warwick Castle is a medieval castle developed from a wooden fort, originally built by William the Conqueror during 1068. Warwick is the county town of Warwickshire, England, situated on a bend of the River Avon. The original wooden motte-and-bailey castle was rebuilt in stone during the 12th century.
I do love a steam train so how about this? Explore 2 of the most Historical sites in England, in a Private Vehicle Shakespeare's Birthplace is a restored 16th-century half-timbered house Visit Mary Arden's Farm Discover the childhood home of Shakespeare’s mother. Visit Anne Hathaway's Cottage, the beautiful 500 year old cottage where Shakespeare courted his bride-to-be. See original furniture including the Hathaway bed and uncover five centuries of stories in this picturesque cottage and 13 generations of the family who lived there. The Cotswolds. One of the delights of visiting the Cotswolds is exploring the different areas, each with its own identity, yet all with those defining Cotswold features: golden stone and rolling hills, the ‘wolds’. All Tours Carried out in Executive Vehicles Our definition of “private tour” simply means your tour, where all ground services are provided by your very own personal driver, with a private vehicle and chauffeur. Especially convenient if you are traveling with children or elderly people.
Finally although not Warwickshire, I would like to mention the Malverns. One of the more prosperous parts of the West Midlands, The Malverns is the generic name for a string of towns and villages stretched along the eastern lower slopes of the ( talk about natural beauty) Malvern Hills, which rise spectacularly out of the flatlands a few miles to the southwest of Worcester. About nine miles from north to south – between the A44 and the M50 – and never more than five miles wide, the hills straddle the Worcestershire–Herefordshire boundary. Of ancient granite rock, they are punctuated by over twenty summits, mostly around 1000ft high, and in between lie innumerable dips and hollows. It’s easy, if energetic, walking country, with great views, and there’s an excellent network of hiking trails, most of which can be completed in a day or half-day with Great Malvern being the obvious base.
