Why Wait Until January?

I’ve been doing a lot of work recently on mindset – which can either be our greatest asset or our greatest obstacle. We’ve all realised at different points in our life that we are being our own worst enemy when it comes to negative self-talk, procrastination and other bad habits that put a dent in our motivation and productivity.
I get it. I used to wait for the perfect timing to start a new project, or talk myself down from starting something because it’s been done before or it won’t be perfect. But I’ve learned since, that starting messy is better than not starting at all, and that small incremental changes over time, and staying consistent, builds up to massive cumulative outcomes.
Here’s some ideas that have stuck with me over the last couple of weeks:
The Power of Immediate Action
Back in November I listened to an episode of The Mindset Mentor Podcast by Rob Dial where he talked about getting a head start on 2025 by taking immediate action right then and there. If you plan to get fit in 2025, or start a business or whatever other goal milestone you have in mind – why wait? Start now, seize the moment, and when January 1 comes around you’ve already built some momentum.
Small Changes, Big Impact
James Clear’s Atomic Habits is all about breaking bad habits, building good ones and how this can help you achieve success through the power of compounding benefits over time. If you get in the habit of treating yourself at the donut shop every single day, then over a year you’ve likely added a couple of kilos. But of course the opposite is true – when you change your habits for the better – even by only 1% each day – time is your ally, and the benefits accrue exponentially. By focussing on getting your system right instead of the end goal, the results will come to you over time.?
Consistency Over Intensity
Changing habits can be hard – but it is totally possible, especially when you value consistency over intensity. This means consistently taking action, even if it’s small or imperfect. If you get bogged down in over-planning, as I’ve done in the past, your project may never get off the ground.?

If you’re like me you will have worked with such intensity on something only to get to a point when you start hitting roadblocks and it all feels impossible. At this stage it’s easy to quit. Instead of getting to this point, consistently work on smaller pieces of the puzzle, but keep showing up and you’ll make steady progress.?
How does all this apply to your digital marketing strategy?
To leverage the power of immediate action, brainstorm today all the ways your business could lift its digital presence. Perhaps you have been considering writing some articles to build your personal profile. Maybe your website needs a refresh, or you need to structure your social media output instead of randomly posting when you get a minute. Use the quiet time over the Christmas break to plan those first steps.?
When you’re back at your desk in January you’ll have momentum on your side because you’ve already made a start. Then over the course of the year take small, consistent action to implement your plan.?
Get started now, ride the ripple effect of small changes over time and reap the benefits in 2025!
If I’ve had the pleasure of working with you this year, thank you from the bottom of my heart for being part of this journey and helping me get Sixdays Digital off the ground ??
Wishing you all a joyful Christmas.
